Played my first round of 2014 on Monday (yes, it's likely sacrilege to live here and wait until April 21 to finally play). Hit a driver right down the middle of the fairway on the 1st hole...and then made an 11. Some things never change.

Spieth collapsing, Garcia being Garcia, and Kaymer running away with it. Just what we all wanted to see.

The jinx worked. Kaymer is a disaster at the moment.

excellent tip on the top flite gamer. i have used them for every round so far, surprisingly decent. they are comparable in feel and spin to the bridgestone b330 for me

:thumb: it is a great ball at the price. kenny the kangaroo doesnt understand why more people dont try that ball. they cost half as much as the premium balls but the difference in performance is marginal.

The Las Vegas gambler part is interesting. I'm sure the PGA is thrilled with that part.

In other news, after shooting a stellar 63 at the Memorial Tournament Thursday, Rory Mcilroy follows it up with a 78 on Friday.

shot 42 on the front 9 today... felt alright about it. Then a bogey, birdie and 7 straight pars later, came in with a 78. First real good round of the year. Very happy about it.

I had my usual 86 with 4 birdies, a quad, a triple and three doubles. If I could just quit being so damn inconsistent I'd be thrilled.

yeah, I didn't have anything over a bogey. I usually have 2 or 3 blow up holes where everything goes to ****, but it didn't happen today.

I ordered the original Rocketballz Driver this past weekend from Dick's for $99, and it is waiting for me at home as I type. I've never actually hit it (they didn't have any available at the new Dick's on McKnight), but I can take it into the store and use their simulator to try it out before committing to it. I spent about 45mins hitting about 7 different driver/shaft combinations to get some sort of idea of what I liked...it'll also give me a pretty good basis of comparison once I hit the RBZ. According to the simulator, my swing speed was between 105mph and 112mph, so I ordered it with a stiff flex shaft. I've never had an adjustable club, so I'm looking forward to customizing this one to my swing. It's replacing a Callaway FT-3 that had a regular flex shaft that played pretty well, but never felt 100% comfortable. According to Mike (really helpful Dick's golf guy), the regular flex was probably wreaking havoc on my swing...causing the clubhead to lag. We'll see...I'm pretty psyched, though. For $99, it's worth a shot.

It's brutal... many analysts are saying winning score with be 1 or 2 over par.

edit:

here's the course: http://www.usopen.com/en_US/course/index.html

3 par fours over 500 yards on the front 9 and then there's a 600+ par five on the back as well as another 500+ par 4. crazy stuff.

I know the WC is going on simultaneously, but has there ever been a U.S. Open with less fanfare? One of my favorites on the sports calendar, but I had no idea it was this week.

I've been fortunate enough to play #2 about 5 years ago. Beautiful place. My game is very out of place on that course. It ate me alive. I will not say what I shot there. If you don't know the way the greens roll, you're screwed. Firing at pins will not work. But I still had fun, because, well it is #2 and this isn't JTOR so it's not about poop, even thought that's what my game was that day.
