Why would companies start slashing dividends? Cash is piling up on balance sheets at unprecedented amounts.
I should have added "If we go into another recession" - which is a large part of why the sell off is occurring, people are fearing another recession.
Hopefully, this all just a temporary blip in all the economic data...some are saying it may be related to the Japan stuff as companies put on the brakes a bit and we didn't see some of the impact until now. Not sure if I buy any of that though...they've been using it for a while.

Down?? I'm not sure how they can get much lower. Capital markets are already near record lows. Lots of cash out there since no one is looking to take long positions in stocks.
I would expect both capital and consumer markets to stay flat for the next million quarters.

True, problem with that though is that I won't be able to afford to stay at the beach.

Stock market was constipated for a few weeks and just took a massive dump on everyone's portfolio. I wouldn't have predicted a 500 drop...200-300 would have been bad enough!
