I'm definitely going to check out the Samsung S3 this weekend. My iPhone 5 isn't shipping for 2 weeks, so I can ditch it this weekend if I have to. Hopefully ATT doesn't do something stupid like auto-renew my contract even though I cancelled the order from Apple (I know they will /sigh)

You could keep the iphone, sell it brand new on ebay for 750-900ish (I heard people in other countries were buying them that high because they aren't released there yet) and buy a brand new S3 on ebay for 5-600.

I don't have any issues with Maps. Public transportation would be nice, but personally, I would only need it when I visit NYC or Chicago, which unfortunately isn't too often. It will get better. Google has been doing maps for years, so obviously they have been able to build it up quite a bit. Apple will get there eventually.

Also, if Maps is your only thing keeping you from the new iPhone, Google maps are still available in safari and work exactly the same.

I use Navigation powered by Google Maps on my DROIDX as my GPS. Sounds like the new Maps may not quite be ready for that yet. Of course, they'll have software updates/patches, so we'll see. I'm due for a new phone next month, so I can hold off to see how it develops.

Bing apparently works very well as an app on the iPhone. I will give that a shot until google releases their own app. I have 30 days to return the iPhone after I get it anyway. But I still want to check out the S3. I figure 99% of my cell phone usage is on google products, so maybe it is time to go google.

There's such an outrage over the first build of the maps that it literally is annoying now. People are melting down about it being less detailed, but I've been using it as a navigation device the last two days and it's gotten me everywhere I need to go around the city just fine.

That being said, Google Maps was ultra detailed, but it wasn't an overnight thing that people make it out to be.

Apple Maps seems just as detailed as google maps was in and around South Park. And for the past 4 years I never once switched on the overlay view on google maps, I didn't even know you could. Apple maps you just pull up the bottom right corner and switch really easily.

I think the issue people are having with apple maps are business owners have invested so much of their time and energy to get recognized on Google Maps and now when you search "Auto care shop" or something, you get random results. No **** the maps work. They don't change much.

I'm in SEO and I do agree with this function, but what you're assuming is incorrect. Google has approached the business from a "city center out" model. Meaning closest to you from the center of a major city.

People did all of this work and it is still vital, and not totally useless as a majority of searches are still done organically online(following the model above).

Apple has made a clear decision to stop working with Google as Google is the competitor. Aside from YouTube, the maps function was the sole selling point that kept Google on an Apple product.

Whoa, I was looking into getting the S3 soon and I may just have to borrow this idea. If I break even I'm still saving almost $300.

Well, once the iPhone 5 is released widespread in the US Im sure prices will fall on it. If you had an iPhone 5 TODAY then you'd get top dollar. But in a month, probably not.

True, but like I said, if I just break even (buy S3 for $500, sell I5 for $750), that's still better than paying $250+ tax for S3. You're idea is ingenious either way. Looking at that selling price, I now have motivation to act sooner.

Oh it's still doable, if you get to a VZW/ATT store right now. But a friend of mine went to the Latrobe VZW store at 6 AM and he's still there.

You might have better luck. Sprint still was preordering phones as of a few days ago. ATT/VZW shut down preorders after a few hours.

I don't understand why people are buying these phones for way more than retail price when you can just buy it at retail and not use stupid ebay.
