It's a side plank:

And you walk your feet in and out. It was brutal. Usually we do 7-10 stations, all timed at 1 minute a piece with a few rotations. This night was for reps, not time. 50 side plank walk ups on each side.

Walk your feet closer to your armpit?

Yup! And then back out. It's really hard and I look like an idiot doing it, but it's a great exercise. It requires you to keep your whole core tight to maintain balance.

I can't find any examples of this on Google. I can't quite figure out how you walk up.

I'm picturing that homer simpson thing where he runs around in a circle on the floor.

That's about how I looked...yes

Keep the arm supporting your weight in place and then walk your feet toward your head. You will have to arc your body a bit to accommodate range of motion.

So you walk forward, one foot in front of the other, or side step?

You're in a side plank. You walk your feet, sorta one over the over, toward your head and then back out. You kinda fold in half but keep your arm on the ground. Im willing to bet if this was not demonstrated in front of me I would have been totally lost.

We watched shad do a thriller dance. I think we can handle the sideplank walk thing.

See his right leg? That would be your first move. You would put the leg down with your foot right about in front of the other shin. Next you would walk your other leg up in the same directions. Repeat until you're at your full range of motion...

Ok, now we're getting somewhere. So your second step... does your foot go infront of your shin, almost like you're walking forward and closer to to your armpit? Or does it go behind your shin, more of a shimmy, up to your armpit?

Is anybody doing the zombie race in two weeks? I have a camp site that I may or may not be using (still undecided). I'm about a half hour from the race site, so I'm debating if I want to get a decent night sleep the night before or head out and do some camp site stuff.

I'm not doing Zombie Race.

I did, however, just do these crazy side plank walker thingies. It's basically what Homer does, in side plank position. I did try to walk toward my armpit. However, I really just ended up walking closer to my forearm. I went about 90 degrees and then walked back down to starting position. I took about 12 steps foward, one foot right in front of the other. Then about 10 steps backward to get to starting position. Of the three sets I did, I untied my shoe laces twice by stepping on them.

I didn't hold my arm up in the air like DMX did in the picture above, though. I'll try that next time. They were hard and I sweat a lot, so it seems like a pretty good exercise. I only two two reps each time, so I should hope to up that on my next attempt.

two races, one day, two states. While it was fun, I probably won't do it again. Spent too much time on the road, somewhere between 6-6.5 hours.

I have a feeling that's also why I'm so cramped up this morning.

It was 3.1, which is the norm for most Dashes. There are a few that go up to 3.5, like the one in Northeast PA.

I actually liked that one better than either one of the Ohios last year. Ohio II 2011 was nothing but ankle deep mud. This one had some new obstacles, like the floating thing in the middle of the lake where I realized that I almost forgot how to swim at something other than my own pace. I wasn't a fan of the one wall about 2 miles in, where you had to climb the slanted wall, crawl over, and somehow crouch down and slide down the wall that was about 8-10 ft high. My right shoulder is still AFU so I got about halfway down, planted my feet and pushed off. Probably made my jump around 5-6 ft high, which wasn't how the obstacle was designed.

Yeah, the swimming one was neat. It was also very draining; very hard to run after that.

As for the distance, we did a Tough Mudder earlier this year, and despite everything bad I had to say about it, the distance was great. For $65 I'd like to get more than a 40 minute run in. I'm not one that just wants obstacles; I like to get a decent run in also and feel really drained at the end.
