A good rule of thumb is to replace your running shoes every 300 to 400 miles, depending on your running style, body weight, and the surface on which you run. Smaller runners can get new running shoes at the upper end of the recommendation, while heavier runners should consider replacement shoes closer to the 300 mile mark. If you run on rough roads, you'll need to replace your running shoes sooner than if you primarily run on a treadmill.

Sounds like they've been blown out.

Who's bright idea was that? I'm not replacing running shoes every six months.

I am a fan of the INOV8, if you like a lightweight shoe

300-400 miles? That seems really low.

i think it depends on the surface. but yeah, running destroys your lower half...if you don't want feet/hip issues as an old fart...you need to either have good genetics or adhere to these guidelines.

you're giving the INOV8's a thumbs up? I saw a few places that had them on sale but didn't want to commit to them without a good review.
My last few shoes were Asics. It seems like the first few weeks are kinda rough, but once they are broken in, I love them.

But if you're shopping for INOV8s, you might want to try these two places:
Active.com's site: Regular $120, Active.com 59.95 http://gearup.active.com/Search.aspx?l= ... 9200000000
The Clymb's site: Regular $110-140, TheClymb.com $54.98-69.98 http://www.theclymb.com/all/3827/men-s- ... ilter-form

The Clymb also has a ton of deals on outdoor stuff.

Anyone have any reviews on these Merrell shoes? They look like my style of running boots

I just bike and swim mostly, sometimes i go into oakland and run the stairs in the cathedral, but running the stairs is the only "running" i'll do. I already hobble around like a gimp for an hour every morning cause my feet are so messed up, i can't imagine what it'll be like when i'm 50.

That's two of us.

Between skateboarding in high school, snowboarding in my late teens to mid 20s, playing hockey since I was 14 (still playing), and running regularly since my early 30s, my knees are gonna be miserable in about 10 years.

My knees are pretty bad, i'm trying to mitigate that. I now swim and use a stationary bike mostly. I want to get an actual bike.

kenny the kangaroo's dad, who was too unathletic and too short to make the basketball team or bother with football in high school, always talks about how lucky he was that hes 60+ years old and still able to get around the golf course compared to a lot of his peers. old man kangaroo has elbow issues thanks to 40 years old lifting weights, but thats about it. alot of those dudes have lingering issues with hips/knees/joints thanks to various football related issues. its funny how that works out.

You'd think with all that hopping around his kanga-human hybrid knees would've exploded by now.

Why not do both? 8-)

You are looking to increase VO2 Max I assume? Decrease run time? Nothing better than HIIT for that!

I was thinking doing my rounds of 100's and then have a heavy weight or two afterwards. Like 100's, then benching. Next day 100's then squats, etc.

That's perfect. I assume you have access to bars and weights then.

Try this once a week.

Clean, Front Squat, Push Press, Back Squat, Push Press - 1 rep

7 reps, 7 rounds. 1-3 minute break in between sets, the bar CANNOT touch the ground or rack during a round, and the weight CANNOT decrease, only increase.

Do a set of 100s after and there's your Friday...

Holy crap haha maybe once I get back into the swing of it. 100 pushups, 100 pullups, 100 situps, 100 body weight squats, and 100 burpees is plenty to kill me.

I see that haha I'm trying to find a replacement for the 100's though. Actually have cards with workouts and cards with set # or time on them. Shuffle up workouts, pick 6, shuffle up time or reps, pick 6. Gets weird, like 1 minute of jumping jacks, then 100 inchworms, then 30 pushups...

For me the struggle is in the lower back. For everything...leg raises, inchworms, anything. Years of bad posture do that to ya.
