Oh, and the "Leader's Ledge" obstacle kinda sucked. When I got there they were adding more hand holds. So they took what might have been a difficult obstacle and made it way too easy. This is my main gripe with these events is that they try to make them completable. Tough Mudder is the same way. The difference, besides the distance, is that Warrior Dash make their obstacles slightly easier. The barbed wire is higher, there's no danger of getting shocked and the obstacles are generally easier. I feel that WD (or whoever the parent company is, Red Frog or something) sees they're competing against TM and chooses to find a slightly different demographic that may otherwise be scared off by the slightly more difficult obstacles.

When I got to the last water station at mile 2, I was surprised that it was almost over.

And finally, how do these people sleep at night? They make money hand over fist and still rely on volunteers extensively at their events. "So you're making millions of dollars and you want me to work for free? Sure!!" Unreal. And then they charge $20 for parking!!!

That's the one thing I didn't like.

Last year, parking was $10. What justifies a 100% price hike, or even a $10 bump? Like you said, this is all work done by volunteers (most that are usually screwing off on their cell phones). I get that these obstacles don't move themselves from point A to point B and they have to be working with a humongous big traveling budget, and I'm sure there's some money that is paid for bands, DJs, etc. However, you figure that every one of their events sell out. Say that a 1 day event draws 9,000 people and a 2 day doing 18,000. With a conservative estimate of every other person driving (balance it out for every car of one has a car carrying three, with a car of two being the norm), you're looking at 4,500 cars a day. That's $90,000 in parking....A DAY! Now factor in multiple days per location times how many weekends they run per year. That's not even including the price per runner, which starts at $35 and gradually increases throughout the year to $90(!) as it gets closer to race day.

I mean good for them for creating a race that is creative, challenging at various levels, and that was probably the one that got the ball rolling on the mud/cross country races. But when I go to do one of these things, the first thing I think is "****, this weekend is gonna cost me."

On a minor side note, the trip from Washington to North Lawrence Ohio back to Green Tree was the first time that my car ran at 30 miles per gallon. Not bad for all wheel drive.

The rates start at $35? I thought we got in as soon as we could at $65.

Yeah, I don't get above 23 miles per gallon. I did between 75/80 the whole way there so I made great time, but that's not the optimal speed for good MPG.

I was doing 75-80 most of the time too. :)

They sent an email saying they just opened dates for next year's Ohio races, and they started at $35. So technically yes you could get in at $35, but a procrastinator like myself will usually forget and pay the extra coin.

I think $35 is a fair price for this lengh of a race. Someone told me next year's is in Butler, which makes that even more attractive. Still, I'm looking for something more difficult.

Death Race anyone? http://www.youmaydie.com/

Probably should not have done an intense run, then killer ab workout, and swimming all in one day (yesterday). I can't move today...

But I was happy with my 20 min 5K! I'm trying to find some late season 5K in the next month or so. Anyone have suggestions for the Pittsburgh or Cleveland area?

Anyone doing that zombie run 5k in october?

Also, can anyone recommend me a fast ab workout routine? Like 5-10 minutes a day or something.

Just get a core ball and do a core burn out circuit with some weights... should take like 15-20min

Froggy and I are zombies in the run in October near Baltimore. 15-20 minutes is good for abs. 5-10 isn't enough imo.

Not looking for like a six pack, just want a quick core workout that will compliment my running training.

I really don't think 5-10 minutes is going to give you any results period. Not even endurance.

Right. That little time doesn't give your body enough time to really work the muscle group.

Just do ab work in between sets at the gym. No need to have a special routine dedicated to abs unless you are a professional athlete.

I was flippin' my tire through the yard last week and was surprised how much my lower abs were affected.

If anybody wants a free entry to the Zombie Run in Butler this weekend, I'll take caller #1. I need to have it transferred by today. Not asking anything for it, but the only condition that I ask is that you use it.

PM me with any questions.

I've been using the Wheel for abs+. It's tremendous, though I'm certain I'll throw out my back at some point.

Yep. I've been there a year or so. I like it a lot. The fact that they include personal training in your monthly fee is awesome. My only gripe is that while the 24 hours thing is cool, that's only M-F. Saturday and Sunday they close at like 5PM. I'd rather you just be open til like 11 every night. I can't count the number of times I've felt like going on a Saturday or Sunday then realize it's like 4:30 already.

Steelers 5k is on Sunday. All flatland. First half is along the river, second half will run you into the parking lots, past Ribfest, with the last 100-150 yards taking you into Heinz Field and into the stadium where you finish the race on the warning track. You can even tell friends and family that you were on the jumbotron, since they have a camera pointed at the finish line. Still debating whether to do it this wknd. Going out Saturday night, so Sunday AM might be a bad time. Probably 70/30 that I am. :D

Extreme Fitness near Market District is the same way. They close super early on weekends. Showed up on a Sunday at 5:15, did my 5k, and they had somebody coming around saying I had 15 min left. He was cool about it, but I didn't expec them to close at 6. Maybe during football season, but not now.

I pay $41/mo I believe and didn't pay any type of startup fee either although I think that was during a promotion.
