Water is a much more effective conductor of heat than is air.

Example: Heat your oven to 212 F, and bring a pot of water to a boil on the range. Stick your and in the oven, and it will barely even feel warm. Stick your hand in the water, and..... well......

I don't know what you are getting at with this? The water is 59 degrees. It will do much more damage to your body and feel much colder than if you were walking around outside on a 59 degree day.

If you are pointing out that for both hot and cold, water temp does not = air temp, then I agree.

i think he was agreeing with you

That conversation between the Guardia Costiera and that coward "captain" of that vessel makes me damned proud of those guys. Listening to them ream him out, emasculate him, and tell him to get his sorry ass back on board to assist with the rescue was solid. Much respect to the junior officers on board, he should go straight to prison

The most  part was when the captain asked the CG guy how many dead there were and the CG guy was all "WTF?! You are supposed to be telling me that!!"

The captain now claims, get this, that he had accidentally fallen into the life boat. :face:

I read the transcript of the conversation with the captain and the coast guard. Man, did the captain catch hell. You could tell too he did not want to get back on the ship.

He need not worry, he'll never have to set foot on any ship again.

Except maybe the ship of foools. Or Charon's ferry. Or, er...

It reminds me of a story Dennis Rodman used to tell on the Stern show, where Carmen Electra walked in on him with another woman. He said that the other woman just fell out of the ceiling...lol.

I find it hard to believe that something off the coast of ITALY could be undocumented. There have only been people sailing those waters since like, the ancient Egyptians.

Especially since (from what I understand) that area is a SCUBA divers haven.

Gregorio de Falco, the coast guard dude, is now becoming a celebrity in Italy for kicking Schettino's arse. He's not interested, though, and refuses to talk to the press. :thumb:
