Diablo 3

Postby AlexPKeaton on Sat Apr 21, 2012 12:32 pm

It is a free open beta weekend this weekend if you have a battle.net account. I wanted to make this a separate thread so people see it that want to give it a shot. It is like a 3.5 GB download IIRC.

Played about 2 hours last night. Seems exactly the same as Diablo 2 only with updated graphics and much better combat animations. It forces you to log into the servers so if the servers are full you can't play. Kind of sucks, but I know there are some diablo junkies in the NHR gaming community haha.

I'm probably not going to buy it either, but I want to convince myself by playing it, as it is going to be hard to resist all of the 10/10 glowing reviews once it launches.

What a coincidence I have the week of May 15th off. You'd almost think I planned it that way.

Against my better judgement... downloading now. Hasn't complained about my computer not being able to run it... yet. Though I suppose much like SC2 I'll have to run it on the lowest settings if it does indeed run.

If you can run SC2 you should be able to run this. SC2 probably has a lot more going on in terms of polygon count and more textures. There are like no textures in this game. The graphics are definitely a big disappointment imo.

I've played for about an hour and then dropped my connection to the server, although that may have been on purpose on their end. It took 10 tries to actually log in without an error.

The Wizard is pretty much as advertised, although the resource system makes you a bit more cautious at first.

I played it prior to this open beta week. I enjoyed it, just not enough to do in it to really get a great judgment on it.

I beat the beta content with a wizard. Shock bolts is great with the first rune. You can wipe out a big group if the extra damage procs.

It can be rather difficult to get logged in and then get a game started, since they're messing around with the servers constantly. I was locked out for 2 hours and then suddenly got in. I played for a long while, exited the game I was in, and then tried to start again, but it wouldn't let me.

The chat rooms have plenty of people ******** about this who don't understand what a server stress test is. I think there were 200,000 people in there at one point.

No go. ****y video card on this work laptop. My old laptop which is a total wreck ran WoW fine. Should that card run DIII? If so, how difficult would it be for me to swap them?

my computer is 4 years old, has no cutting edge stats, and runs them both just fine.

Yeah, this laptop is the only one I use now. Its basically designed to just be a work laptop, probably the most bare bones graphics card you can get. My other laptop that runs WoW fine is 5 or 6 years old but it is pretty well gone and is more or less inoperable. :slug:
