Yeah, BS really does suck. I am waiting to upgrade it until I get a legendary plan drop or something, and even then, I'd only do it after Blizz fixes how much the legendary crafted items suck. The one weapon that is appealing because if its stats has pretty low dps and costs something like 290k to craft and then, like you said, you still aren't guaranteed to get what you need.

I did invest in JC because commodity auctions have been down for the past 10 days it feels like, and I wanted to upgrade my gems. It does seem like there's a totally broken balance issue in that you can by gems on the AH for cheaper than it costs to craft them with the jeweler -- at least until you get up to the top 2 gems which don't drop from random world mobs and which you need to get plan drops in order to craft with the JC dude.

I did a little reading and it looks like Wizards do derive their spell damage from weapon damage (overall dps, of which weapon damage is a major factor). For always railing against simplification of these games, I actually kind of like the fact that they've done away with the differentiation between types of armor and weapons, i.e., no cloth, leather, mail, etc.

Yup, I use both of those as well. Arcane Orb is by far the best AOE spell. I use lightning for my primary attack.

Lightning didn't do it for me. I found it too slow and not really as effective as I'd like. Still sporting the missile for now

The little arcane orbs/lasers that elite mobs drop shred you apart like no other.

Killed The Butcher on my first attempt on Hell last night. Psyched, as I thought he was one of the tougher bosses -- at least for melee.

Dropped some major coin to boost my magical resistances big time for Act II-IV Hell. Monks have an awesome passive skill where all of your resistances are increased to the highest resistance that you have. I've got 175 resistance to cold (after the -100 you get in Hell as a handicap), which means I reduce all types of damages (each type of magic and physical) by 39.4%. My armor gives me 53% damage mitigation as well. 43% chance to dodge all attacks. Got my crit chance up to 20% as well. Since I am rarely attacking less than 5 mobs at one time, I'm critting at least one enemy at all times. Crit damage is +83% damage.

That Azmodan fight was really difficult on Nightmare because of my weak graphics card. Hard to navigate through the poison crap he puts on the ground. I am very, very nervous about handling it on Hell.

I'm only on normal, because I've been busy - I think I might get to Diablo tonight though. About Azmodan...
Spoiler:
Did you have a hard time on the mini boss that spews poison everywhere? I definitely was lacking some gear, but man that was a longer and tougher fight than I was used to at that point. I haven't fought Azmodan yet.

I'll kill Belial on Nightmare tomorrow. I just hit level 46 and noticed a big jump in the damage that's caused at the weapons one can get at that level

I think I remember a jump at that point as well. 46 on Belial is where you want to be. I ended up killing Diablo at 49 in Nightmare and I think that made it a lot tougher -- I had to then go back and kill some guys to get to 50 to unlock hell. I'm taking my time in Hell a bit more because I don't want to run into that again.

Just downed Belial at Level 43 as a wizard on the first try. I think the reason I had success is because I got my butt kicked on this fight the first time through in the second phase. If you can avoid the green explosions, it's not the worst fight in the world. At 43, will I be to 50 by the time I get to Diablo? I hope so.

Hmm. I want to say that I was at 42 or 43 and was 49 by the time I got to Diablo, so you might be cutting it close.

But handling Belial well is a good sign that you can get him either way. I'd suggest redoing the mobs leading up to Diablo if you need a little more XP before getting there. I actually just redid those mobs after finishing Act I on Hell and got about 5 gold drops, 2 good sellers. That's the area where I got my first legendary too.
