Not a Michigan fan, but the flatlanders can't abide by the rules, so they shouldn't rag on anybody

To be fair, the rules are very confusing...what is the salary cap or maximum player salary in college football anyway? No one knows really...honest mistake(s)...

I SFTC'd FSU -15 on the grounds that NIU's QB sparked a tirefire in 'Nole Nation...let's see...

Miami's infractions were way worse than anything Pryor and Tressel were caught with, yet they got nothing. Auburn paid Scam Newton's dad 80k and got away with it.

I can almost guarantee every team in the FBS has at least 1 player who is getting paid under the table. Most people don't care unless it's one of the big moneymaking teams.

I thought they were done and nothing came of it.

It's taken them over a year to do it. That stuff came out right after the OSU thing. You would think they would be done by now.

RE: Miami thing

The NCAA didn't want to do a two year investigation, so they ignored it and just let Miami impose a bowl ban.

Quick Google. What a crock of bull.

See, I don't really follow college football at all (relative to the NHL and NFL, that is) and this isn't even really a response directly to you, mrandall. But I used to work with a guy that was all OSU, probably the most disgusting homer I've ever met for any team ever. He went to OSU and predicted pretty much every player that ever played for OSU would be an NFL star.

Like with Indianapolis, he kept insisting that WR Anthony Gonzalez was remotely talented at football. He was not. And when I said that MSU walk-on and Indy walk-on Blair White is someone I'd rather have over him, he nearly gave birth to a fully-grown platypus right there in the office. A) it was anti-OSU B) it was pro another Michigan team

He was also anti-Florida and his head spun around and fell off when they hired their current coach.

Anywho, he also tried to play the "every team does it" angle, even bringing it up that Rutgers (we worked together one town over from where the Scarlet Knights play and I'm an alum) did. So I just said, "if you can prove it, I'll use my journalism powers and I'll go public with it...articles, a book, anything...if we can uncover this and you know for a fact they're doing it, let's go after them...we'll make a ton of money, you're into get-rich-quick schemes, this is your best idea yet...let's go do this! Now!"

Needless to say, he froze and was completely flabbergasted that I wouldn't allow him to spout his slanderous filth without backing it up. Convenient myths become assumed facts pretty quickly once you're on the defensive I suppose. Again, that's not directed at you mrandall (it just reminded me of the instance), just a "csb" moment that ended several sentences ago...

I still say Pryor and tattoos are the bare minimum of what OSU should have got nailed with and they got a huge favor. A guy like Tressel who cheats at friggen Youngstown St isnt going to convince me he ran a clean program with one of the biggest teams in CFB

Just a quick Google search, mikey:

http://www.thebiglead.com/index.php/201 ... iolations/

The NCAA is investigating the Auburn football program for recruiting violations and improper benefits. Multiple assistants have been pulled off the road from recruiting.

Also: WVU, Cincy, Boise St., Florida St., USC, Georgia Tech, UNC, and South Carolina all are on probation for football reasons until July 2013 for the earliest case.

http://www.footballgeography.com/?p=1159

That link is a list of all the schools that have been caught with violations in football in history. Rutgers is on the list (though it happened 10 years ago, they were still caught with something).

You can argue that not "every team does it", but that's a pretty hefty list.

I agree with Mrandal on this one. Big time college athletics is a dirty/sleazy place. its all about money. most of the big time programs break the rules on a fairly regular basis, most of them are too good to get caught or dont get caught till years later.

Hmph, I figured it was somewhat bad...but that link did kind of surprise me. I wonder how the severity ranges in all those cases...interesting link though, thank you.

Miami's yet to go before the committee on infractions yet for their punishment.

The SEC definitely isn't overrated. Michigan should have beat USC. NU beat Miss St. Clemson beat LSU. Louisville walking all over Florida. They have the best conference in the nation, but when you start the season with two teams in the top three you're destined to produce a team in the national championship.
