See, I don't really follow college football at all (relative to the NHL and NFL, that is) and this isn't even really a response directly to you, mrandall. But I used to work with a guy that was all OSU, probably the most disgusting homer I've ever met for any team ever. He went to OSU and predicted pretty much every player that ever played for OSU would be an NFL star.
Like with Indianapolis, he kept insisting that WR Anthony Gonzalez was remotely talented at football. He was not. And when I said that MSU walk-on and Indy walk-on Blair White is someone I'd rather have over him, he nearly gave birth to a fully-grown platypus right there in the office. A) it was anti-OSU B) it was pro another Michigan team
He was also anti-Florida and his head spun around and fell off when they hired their current coach.
Anywho, he also tried to play the "every team does it" angle, even bringing it up that Rutgers (we worked together one town over from where the Scarlet Knights play and I'm an alum) did. So I just said, "if you can prove it, I'll use my journalism powers and I'll go public with it...articles, a book, anything...if we can uncover this and you know for a fact
they're doing it, let's go after them...we'll make a ton of money, you're into get-rich-quick schemes, this is your best idea yet...let's go do this! Now!"
Needless to say, he froze and was completely flabbergasted that I wouldn't allow him to spout his slanderous filth without backing it up. Convenient myths become assumed facts pretty quickly once you're on the defensive I suppose. Again, that's not directed at you mrandall (it just reminded me of the instance), just a "csb" moment that ended several sentences ago...
