Because he inaccurately said that I wasn't citing the rivalry aspect when it was a big part of my ORIGINAL post. You must have missed that. And yes, that is accurately termed a "reading comprehension problem"

This has nothing to do with strength of OOC. It has to do with scheduling your rival.

Right... Schedule strength has nothing to do with the FBS bowl selection right? Why would any team want to play a heatd rival having a losing year (and possibly suffer a Bowl eliminating loss - in large part due the the "rival" nature of the game), instead of playing a game like lastr years LSU game which was featured on "College Game Day" and helps recruiting?

Wow... last years loss to LSU that was featured on "Game day" was a better showcase for recruits than the 13-9 loss in 2007.

Have you already forgotten Cameron Saddler and the other WVU recruits that were invitred to the 2007 game that ended up celebrating in the Pitt locker room and eventually went to Pitt?

It is. It's one of my favorite sports to watch on the field, but off the field, when it comes to rankings, national championships, awards, etc, it is the biggest joke in the world.

Geno had one bad game, and now he is pretty much a Heisman afterthought. But the funny thing is (and this goes for rankings for teams as well), if he would have had that bad game in game 1, instead of mid/late season, it would have been forgotten and if he played well the rest of the year, he'd be back there.

Same with teams. Say two teams have the same exact schedule, just playing teams different weeks. Say Team A loses week 1, and then goes 11-0 the rest of the season, but team B goes 11-0 and loses that last game, there is a 99.9999% chance that team A will be ranked much higher than team B just solely due on the timing of the lose.

What is really silly about geno becoming an afterthought is that if Geno Smith was playing for a blue blood, he would still be the lock of the century. but since wvu really doesnt get the benefit of the college football hype machine, hes now just a guy.

There really isn't a Heisman-worthy candidate outside of Geno Smith. Braxton Denard 2.0 Miller? LOLno. I still think he has a great shot at it.

Yeah, I don't get how Geno Smith still isn't the front-runner. He didnt light it up this past weekend like he has been, but he still hasn't thrown an INT, and he doesnt play defense, so you cant put the WVU loss solely on him.

Correction: The 3rd string QB doesn't go to play school. I've seen quite a few players in classes of mine.

One of the O-line players at my school is in my 400 level Math class. He kills the curve. I wish he didn't show up.

He was definitely there for school....so he could get his diploma and his father would hand him the family construction business, in return.

Because playing your only real rival is more important than a home and home with LSU. Seriously now, think.

By this logic there is no such thing a a rivalry. Rather, each year, the team that has the theoretically better team will evaluate whether it is worthwhile to play its rival this season on a cost benefit/risk management basis.
