No, why?

Almost everything in this post is grammatically incorrect.

It's not horrible, except for the fragment in the middle.

A bit conversational there, which I tend to do on the message board.

I don't have a practical reason. I get annoyed when people are so grammatically incorrect, or if I make grammatical errors. When I text, I write complete sentences, use punctuation, and capitalization. I feel old.

I remember there is an English teacher on this forum. Don't remember who. I wouldn't mind a "correct grammar" thread.

Well, this thread started off as a discussion on the necessity of correct grammar. What I meant is a thread where we could ask and possibly learn how to write better.

I try to watch how I spell and use grammar, but:

1) When I type on here, I type quickly and often mispell a lot of words and screw up grammar.

2) I like to pretend I know grammar, but I'm horrible at it.

3) If I was working on a formal paper or document, I'd ensure everything was correct. But on LGP.com, I could care less.

So really it's just the fragment. If you want to edit the second to last sentence it would be:

"When I text, I write complete sentences and use punctuation and capitalization."

Or

"When I text, I write complete sentences, use punctuation, and use capitalization."

However, the way I wrote that sentence originally was fine. It was also meant that I write words out instead of "text shorthand." I wasn't talking about writing complete sentences.

Some of this is just style, something I really don't think much about in informal writing. Formal writing, different story.

I used to teach sixth grade language arts, but I know others here can better comment on more technical writing aspects. If it's middle school level, then I'm sometimes helpful.

I have a concentration in technical writing but my degree is in English. I would never begin to pontificate on an individual's familiar tone on an internet messageboard.

If I were working on a formal paper... :) Nah, only tight butts use the conditional future tense (subjunctive mood).

I think you need a comma after writing and before but. Or, is that optional? I dunno.

Sorry to bump an old thread and sorry also if this vid was posted elsewhere.

Just curious about what people think of this:

Jeopardy rules are clear and they made the correct call, IMO.

But -- Jeopardy rules aside -- should this misspelling matter?

I don't think it should have mattered. The kid obviously knew the answer. It's not like emancipation is close to another word. He's on a gameshow. It's a timed response. He's nervous. Give the kid a break.

I dont want to spend too much time on this, but I swear I have seen misspellings on jeopardy before. Also what about the regular participants that write in cursive that looks like some foreign language and they don't have a problem with that.

I heard that Jeopardy rules allow for spelling errors as long as they don't change the pronunciation, which this did.

The kid knowingly (a bit of a stretch, but how do you not realize you made the mistake) put "Emanciptation". It's wrong. He got docked the money.

It wouldn't have even mattered if he got the spelling correct. He was down so far. Seems inconsequential to complain about it.
