For being relatively cheap, Black Velvet Roasted Caramel Whisky is amazingly delicious. I highly recommend it. Sometimes I just take the lid off the bottle to smell it. So good.

I vaguely recall the Settler's Ridge Market District carrying a few other kinds. Maybe and orange and something else? If you really want selection though, you'll have to go online. A bar I used to bartend at ordered from this website. They have a selection that makes my head spin. :scared:

Had some Pappy Van Winkle 12 yr bourbon. It was good, but I don't get the craze for this stuff? Got a buddy that got 30 bottles and is selling it at crazy prices.

has anyone else tried any of the Art in the Age stuff? they have sage, root, ginger snap, and rhubarb liquors. pretty unique stuff. we got a bottle of the sage, and it's basically like a gin that uses sage instead of juniper. it's a bit of a smoother taste, and a good change of pace. I'm curious about the other brands.

Speaking of I just finished a bottle of 12 year Jameson last night. I think I'll get the 18 year next.

My recommendation, don't. The 12 year is the sweet spot. The 18 is a little bit smoother, but not enough to justify the price difference. Stick to the 12, or better yet, get the Redbreast 12 instead. Still under the Jameson banner, but priced better, and I think it tastes better.

IMO, the 15-year-old Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve is better, but I can understand your friend selling the 12-year-old for high prices. I personally think the 15-year-old is the sweet spot, and the 20- and 23-year-old versions have too much "wood" in them. But just about any bottle of Van Winkle is phenomenal, and I can understand how your buddy is getting high prices.

During one of the first saturday night playoff games in April my girlfriend and I bought a bunch of liquor and the classic mixers and tried making the standard cocktails - manhatten, tom collins, old fashioned, etc.

It was kind of fun - I've never drank most of those before. My grandparents always used to make 7 and 7s before bed and thats something I do occaisonally now too.

I live pretty close to the Livermore and Salt but I'm just not sure that I'll really enjoy a $10+ cocktail.

this is why I love weddings that have open bars. you get to try anything you want!
my favorite is still a Whiskey Sour made with Crown Royal though. :thumb:

Can you really though? When I went to a wedding I asked for a gin on the rocks for me and a long island for my mom. The bartender incredulously told me this isn't a nightclub and they don't do on the rocks and they don't do college drinks. Huh?

It depends. I know when wife and I got married we had an open bar and the place gave us like 3 options. Low tier..,mid tier...high end. The tier we picked Would determine what types of alcohol they offered. We went with the middle tier...had no complaints.

seriously? the bride and groom got ripped off then. if you're serving full bar you have to have ice and I'm not sure how a LIT is a "college drink". that bartender needs another line of work. hope you didn't tip him.

After thinking about that I got two different weddings confuzzled in my head

-the gin was at a country club in Altoona
-the long island was at a family wedding north of Cranberry at this hall (I think on a golf course) that looked like a castle
