I found this article on Gawker. They are trying to find the most racist city in America. Ive read the article and the comments and im wondering if our city is. Ive seen with my own two eyes racism towards every race. I work in many urban areas in pgh. Places you read about or see on the news. I don't think the city is as bad as say Detroit or any other city. I'm just courious what people think about the racial tensions in this city.

Ha ha, not even close. Any city here in SC has Pittsburgh beat by a far margin. Ingrained, blatant, culturally accepted racism abounds. You wouldn't believe how people expect me to also be a racist because I'm white. Saying narrow minded things about Latinos and blacks in public, expecting me to agree.

I hear some people, mostly 60+, say racist crap ovcasionally but don't really see much otherwise. Then again I'm a fat suburban white guy so what do I know.

spend some time in bagdad, Florida. i havent been to pittsburgh, but i guarantee its more tolerant than that place.

I agree. Most rust-belt, non-urban cities tend to be non-metropolitan, which I surmise is correlated to intolerant viewpoints. Anecdotally, I observed far more intolerance in Pittsburgh than I have so far in downtown Chicago, but that should come as no surprise at all.

I've never independently verified this, but a civics teacher in high school once told my class that Blair County - and specifically Altoona - had the highest per capita membership in the KKK of any place in the country during the early 1900s.

Altoona is chock-full of white trash. I used to live right up the block of probably the blackest street in the entire city (maybe the only one), and I was accepted there thankfully.
