I remember my dad used to go to this old gas station. The pumps had little cranks on them and the attendant had to manually crank the numbers back to zero before he could start the fill the tank.

There is still a station like that right down the road from my grandmother's house. The nozzle is on the side of the pump. You have to pull the nozzle out, crank the pump back, then flip the lever over the nozzle receptacle to start the pump.

My grandma doesnt either, at least she doesnt know how to do the newer ones. That one I referenced above is the only place she'll go. Shes also pushing 80, but still sharp as a tack.

Hellooooooo. I'm alive. They only turned the power on today. That definitely sucked. How do you bring down a civilization? Take away their electricity. Jesus. Anyway. No flooding here. I mean, some homes in my area were flooded a bit, but no general flooding. Plus, I live on a hill so when it rains it always all flows down to the lower people. My roof is a bit torn up, but isn't leaking. Small fix, I think.

I see riots at the NYC Marathon if it's not cancelled. If I haven't had access to fresh water for 5 days and see cases upon cases sitting there for some joggers to dump over their head and throw the rest on the ground I'd take as much as I could or get arrested trying.

so can anyone say, specifically, which resources are behind withheld to places like staten island because of the marathon? that's a little unclear to me. the hotel thing i get, but it's not like, "we can't give you bottled water because it's for the runners" or "we can't send the red cross or fema because they'll be busy with the marathon". i mean...i appreciate the sentiment that the race is kind of silly right now, and maybe i'm off way here, but it seems like kind of a broad brush stroke to say the race shouldn't happen because other people need its resources.
