I can't stand basketball.... in fact, I think it's an absolutely terrible sport. But as an Angeleno, today has been positively fascinating.

I'm in the process of moving house, but spent a big part of my day listening to ESPN radio (the Lakers' broadcast home), and this was all everyone was talking about.

Is there an ownership group in another stick/ball sport in North America that would have acted with the decisiveness of the Buss family? Most are saying it was clear last year that Brown was not theft for the job, never mind the sea change the team underwent last year. I know that in my lifetime, the Steelers have had three head coaches, and Penn State (alma mater) has had two..... so I'm not used to seeing teams part company with a coach after one season plus 5 games. Granted, the team has apparently showed no sign whatsoever of improving.....

I'd say a lot of hockey owners would do it. Pens did for example

NBA coaches tend to have a ridiculously short leash.

Until the NHL comes back I'm looking for a random underdog NBA team to support. Thinking possibly one of the most obscure teams in pro sports, the Milwaukee Bucks. Off to a 3-2 start....

i agree that the best strategy with lebron is more of a laissez faire approach but i watched about 60 cavs game a year living in ohio and mike brown really couldnt get out of his own way. he would run set plays at the end of the game for boobie gibson or sasha pavlovic because the other team wouldn't be expecting it and they would inevitably screw it up. if this is an indictment on the cavs ownership or mike brown can be debated but regardless, you have lebron, give him the damn ball

Mike Brown was a laughably bad coach in Cleveland. The only reason he lasted more than two seasons there was LeBron was capable of winning 60 games a year by himself.

I was going to post about it tonight. How in the world can Stern impose "substantial sanctions" for that? Why is it the commissioners call for if the stars play or not. So if a couple teams stars violate team rules and get suspended for a game, Stern can butt in so the opposing teams fans can see those players??

This gentlemans next question would be:

Has an NBA team ever faced "substantial sanctions" for mailing in a game? Lets face it, the nba, more than any other sport, has games where entire teams just loaf. Pop made a roster decision. Eff stern.

Goodell should fine the Steelers if the Ravens fans don't get to see Ben this week :pop:

It was their 4th game in 5 nights. Their team is old. The Heat won by 5, so it's not like the fans got robbed of entertainment. Big whoop.
