I hear this from everyone. LOL. Those songs are staples in my "Songs Sung Loudly in Bars by Drunk Girls Who Otherwise Don't Listen to Music" category. "Captain Jack" by Billy Joel is another one.

I don't at all question Janis Joplin's talent, but her songs are tainted for me by an unsavory association. I told you many of mine were irrational.

You've mentioned this before and I'm just curious - is it Bobby's voice, the comparitive simplicity of the songs, or something else? I was always more of a Hunter/Garcia fan myself, and never really cared for John Perry Barlow, but I do appreciate most of Bobby's work.
