To really quantify how unlikely it is to win the jackpot, consider that if every single person that bought a ticket pooled every single ticket purchased in an effort to split the winnings among themselves equally (~$100?), they still wouldn't have won the jackpot.

The Lottery is a "Tax on people who can't do math", that being said, I got mine. :)

I'm in for one ticket. Cash option, half to charity, i figure I'll have about $70 million left after taxes, plenty enough to take care of my extended family then go off the grid :)

Which would be your last thought prior to breaking your neck as you realize that diving into a money pit is the same as diving into an empty pool

I'll get in the office pool. I don't think we're going to win but on the off chance we do, I'm not staying here and working while everyone else rides off into the sunset

I'll probably buy one or two on the way home tonight or tomorrow. When it comes to a random drawing, my luck is no better or worse than anybody else's.

That being said, I'm gonna find a random **** hole gas station to buy tickets from, since those places always seem to be on the news for selling a $300 million ticket.

I bought 1 ticket, quick pick, powerplay.

If I win, I'm having a proxy claim for me. That's legal in PA. If I win that much money I don't want anyone to know.

How much does a 'Proxy' cost? I'd volunteer for the job for a mere 33% of the take :)

Something must have changed in the last year or so, because I've seen quite a few people didn't want their name released.

I've often thought about that. If I ever won the lottery, no way would anyone outside of close family know.

It would be nearly impossible to do this with a $425 million dollar jackpot, but...

I've always thought the key would be to hold your ticket until a bigger jackpot was claimed. That way you'd be the 'lessor story' and would probably get overlooked.

Either that or wait until a HUGE news day, and hope you got burried on page 26.

The proxy has been allowed in PA for years. I don't think people realized that.

The couple in Cranberry that won some huge amount used a proxy to claim their winnings. But eventually, their names came out. Winners names are in the public domain, a little research is all it takes to find out who won.

But by using the proxy, that gives you time to flee (like they did) until everything died down.
