South Park School District and Local District Rankings

Postby AlexPKeaton on Mon Dec 03, 2012 1:11 pm

I have been looking to move for years now and on a whim I checked out a house in south park, where I previously had not looked. It was really nice and extremely cheap compared to what I have been looking at in Peters where everything is extremely overpriced.

So I start looking at the local school rankings and South Park School District is pretty terrible, but they still have a very large millage in comparison, even more than Bethel which is much higher ranked. Why is south park ranked so low?

2012 rankings (have to click through all 50 one by one, South Park is #36):

What are the rankings based off of, PSSA scores?

I know nothing about South Park, but I wouldn't say it's terrible. It's 36th out of 104. Better list which shows all the school districts, and you can get more info if you click on a school district

It's 36 out of 105 schools in a seven county area. The test is based on..."The formula for this ranking takes into account three years of PSSA test scores in math, reading, writing and science. The Overachiever rank, which takes into account a district’s economics, does not factor into the overall Honor Roll score." Below is a list of all 105 districts. Based on these rankings, its in the top third of these Western PA Schools.

Yeah it isn't terrible, but it is definitely below all of the surrounding districts by a large margin (Bethel, Peters, West Jefferson), and it has higher taxes than any of them.

considering the sheer number of dim bulbs that kenny the kangaroo went to school with, its hard to believe its in the top 10. it makes this gentleman wonder what it is like going a school that has a ton of problems.

Bethel Park has Coverdale bringing it down, where father/son bonding includes smoking a bowl together in the basement.

I've lived in Bethel Park most of my life and had no clue where Coverdale was. So I googled it and of course my first guess was right haha.
