The guy supposedly is a photographer for the NYTimes, and he's quoted as saying he was too far away to help. Which if its a professional camera, is very plausible.
I don't know one way or the other as I wasn't there.

And I read somewhere today (sorry, no link) that he would only talk to CNN about the story if they were willing to pay him (which they weren't). Scum, in my book.
