Mot only that but schools having to buzz people in is great but really that's not going to stop anyone. Especially with all the glass windows and on the doors. There's no way the school could have done anything more. They have lockdown protocol and that's the only thing you can really expect... It sucks that humans break and it's worse that some are beyond help... The whole thing is a tragedy, very sad.

Ya know, I sit here as a former teacher thinking, "What would it have taken at the school for this to not have happened?" And the more I think, the more I come to the conclusion that nothing could have stopped this man from doing what he did, especially if the school is anything like that in which I taught. The thought that there's really nothing that could have stopped this is even more sickening. I understand that people close to him, and people that knew him could have seen warning signs and gotten him help, but I'm talking about the school itself. They were helpless in this situation and that in itself is scary.

As a current one, I've been thinking that as well. From all reports, the school here was in lock down. Unfortunately, apart from having armed guards in schools at all times, there isn't much more you can do.

Exactly. Any highly populated place has the same problem. If some nutcase decides to come in with guns, the only thing you can do is try to minimize the damage he does as much as possible. I can't fathom what it must have been like there today.

"A second suspect has been taken into police custody in Hoboken, New Jersey, CBS News reported. A law enforcement official told the Associated Press the person taken into custody is Lanza’s younger brother"

Like others have said, words cannot express my absolute sorrow for this; and frankly, immense disappointment with the evil that clearly exists. My wife and I went to our first parent teacher conference today, prior to this news breaking nationally. The kids at our local elementary school were being released early and waiting for the buses. Kids being kids around this time of year, they were all signing Christmas songs, the girls holding hands with each other, the boys roughhousing a little; all with smiles on their faces, all, literally giddy and overcome with excitement of the season. The teachers were commenting on the excitement in the air around the holiday break. Kindergartners and their innocence, their joy for life, in their natural environment of home and play; you would hope would be enough to overcome even the most evil intentions of some of the worst humans. But sadly, and tragically, not.

After the conference, my wife and I get in the van, turn on the radio, and unfortunalty listen to the worst of humanity.

Not gonna post it here, some profanity in it and they posted a picture from Columbine to go along with the post.

I would t be so quick to dismiss any of that. The teen that shot up the mall in Minn. did the same thing. Some people aren't able to discern that all of 4chan is not to be taken seriously but that speaks to deeper problems with the individual.

Mother is definitely dead in CT.
Father may actually be alive, but someone is dead at the Lanza house in Hoboken, NJ.
The guns used in the shooting seem to have belonged to the mother.
The girlfriend of Ryan Lanza might be missing.
Adam Lanza may have been mentally or developmentally disabled.

As I said on facebook, my job is advocating for the safety of young children. I have seen some absolutely numbing things in the 6 months that I've been at this job. I can't even comprehend this. I just don't want to believe its real.
