I like when it shortens the thread title and now it seems like you are taking salsa from someone's Tostito.

As was said from the beginning, its the bottle theyre worried about. Which I've said all along is stealing. They are clearly not concerned with the amount of sauce you take.

You said all along that taking the bottle itself is stealing?

On page one I said:

"I can understand why some people may say it's stealing the bottle which maybe can be recycled for 4 cents."

I think if you take the bottle, and it contains more sauce in it than you would normally use on your burrito, then it is stealing. Regardless, it's going to be considered taboo by anyone that observes you taking the bottle with you, since they are unaware of your normal sauce use.

I'm going to itissteeltime's house, ask for a glass of milk, and when I leave, take the rest of the gallon.

People keep trying to make similar examples, this is just not the same at all.

Thats like if I bought a burrito from chipotle, and then stole all of their burritos.

They don't have any premade burritos, so you could argue that you do do that every time (Hehe, I said do do)

No you didn't ask, if you did you would have posted the results.

Yes I did. I just like suspense.

The bottles are there for patrons in the store, however, as has been said they will provide a container if you wish to take some. It's not something they will call the cops over but will ask you to return the sauce. Basically it is the most minimal form of stealing you can come up with according to Chipotle employees in Cranberry

So it's stealing. May God have mercy on all your souls.

It's confined to the same container.

What you said is if I would come in and steel multiple gallons of milk from you. I'm just taking the one I used from because I feel like I want to drink more later.

At any rate, the restaurant's intent is where the issue lies.

If the restaurant leaves out ketchup packets for "to go" diners to take, it intends to provide you with ketchup to take with you. Perhaps some take advantage and take much more than they need for that sitting, but the restaurant's intent is for you to take the ketchup (though not a lifetime's supply).

By the same token, the sauce in a bottle is intended for use within the restaurant. If the sauce was to be taken with you, it would have been given to you in vessel consistent with take out dining.

So the moral is that they want the bottles to stay I guess. However, you could ask for a plastic thing and emty out as much as you want in there, and they wouldn't say a word.

I think what you're describing is taking advantage of an employee's indifference.

If the restaurant chain intended for you to take it with you, they would provide you with a pre-sealed, individual serving container.

I would think they'd provide you with one or two plastic containers, thus limiting what you take. If you asked for 25 containers, I'm sure they would say "no".

I agree with pfim and others that have stated this, it's the intent of the use from the restaurant that determines what is ok or not.

Exactly, they're assuming that most people wont use the opportunity to walk out of the store with as much hot sauce as they can carry.

Plus, how do you know that they don't reuse those bottles, they're just essentially dispensers?

this is easy, it's just like going to a bar and ordering a beer, sure the beer might be really good, but if they charge too much, you take the pint glass home in your purse or giant coat pockets.

if you think it's ok to steal the bottle, you also think it's ok to take the trays that hold items in a salad bar. you also may think it's ok to steal the salad bar itself since it's a vessel that contains all-you-can-eat food.

but if you don't think it's ok to steal the bottle and still do it, is it stealing?
