Kevin Johnson, Ron Burkle, Sacramento Kings

Postby canaan on Wed Jan 23, 2013 9:13 am

Burkle a few years back showed interest in buying the Kings from the Maloofs and now Kevin Johnson, NBA all-star-turned-mayor is assembling a group of investors, including the aforementioned Burkle, to keep the team in Sacramento.

Im assuming not, but do you think Burkle's involvement in another professional sports team affects the penguins in any way?

(i consider this NBA related, not Penguins related--i dont want to drum up any undue "omg our owner wants out" stuff)

No. He is a quiet backer and I would assume that would be the case in Sacramento

Maybe the Penguins can play music each time the opponent brings the puck up the ice or something. Maybe a little cross promotion...but pens tickets and get a free ticket to a Sacramento game. Up to you to make travel arrangements.

Would be nice to be rich. Where does Burkle live on a day to day basis? A team on each cost pretty much would be fun travels.

I saw Ron Burkle with the novak djokovic family box for Wimbledon and US Open this past summer; he could be down under in Australia. In other words; he can go where wants on any given day! :D

I think it will ultimately be a moot point because no matter what Sacramento tries, the team is going to Seattle.

burkle didnt get to be a billionaire by being a charitable cause. he saw the underlying value behind the penguins (i.e. a loyal fanbase in a sports-centric city). hes done the work with the penguins, and when the time comes to sell his stake in the pens, he will make a lot of money. the kings probably are not a similar situation.

What has Ron Burkle done for the Pens that he would do for the Pirates? Draft Fleury, Crosby, Malkin, etc...?
