Things change at 4 am and when your kid is sick and your mind is gone and your wife hates you and you're hungry and your kid's hungry and crying and fights with others and gets sick and needs meds and hears you swear and throws up on himself and eats a battery and won't sleep and cries for you and is hurting and you can't stop it because it doesn't speak english and you got home from work tired and your wife needs you and you hate spending 4 hours in the middle of the night stopping the crying and you have to go to the emergency room and fear your baby has the flu and is crying and you just want to sleep but you have to go to work and teach the kid what you think is right but the kid wants to swear and talk back to adults.

i think im more stunned at doc closing the deal with a female than anything else.

my first is almost 4 months...

things i've learned so far:
dont wear nice clothes around the spew machine or youre gonna have a bad time.
invest in tyvek suits.
wash your hands constantly.
never let them win in video games.
if the baby is sleeping, there is no rational reason to wake them up.
be the one that feeds. its easy, time consuming and he/she is quiet. its a good bargaining chip with the woman.
diapers as gifts are awesome. dont under value them.
baby burps stank.
try to limit your pens related meltdowns in front of the child--she probably thinks im a psychopath...which isnt necessarily a bad thing.
keep the child away from people like doc... this one might be unavoidable in your situation.
enjoy it. the little stuff is awesome.

Worrying about school before they're born? You got to get your priorities in order man, that's a far way down the road. Yesterday I spent a good part of the day explaining the relationship between splinter and his "sons" and the truly complex situation with shredder and krang vs the world or the turtles. It was a great day.

haha gotcha. I really hope my kids like hockey as well! I guess if you have them watching and playing from the time they're young, that will mostly likely be their favorite sport.

Congrats doc! Two things:

One, you already have the sports picked out the child is going to play? I can understand a guiding hand for the kid to get involved in sports, but please don't force them into sports they don't want to play. My father forced me into wrestling when I was younger. I hated it. I was decent at it, but hated it and ended up just hating the sport in general. Let them make their own choices.

Secondly, every school, whether public or private has good teachers and bad teachers. It's not something you're going to be able to avoid, your kid will at some point have a bad teacher. The best thing to do is support the child from home. If there are things you feel that are being left out in his/her education, then teach it yourself. Your kid will have great teachers and your kid will have terrible teachers, it's just the nature of the beast, but he/she will need your support from home much more with a bad teacher than a good one.

Teach your kids to think for themselves, do right more than wrong and be a good friend. Teachers can't screw them up if they mind you in these areas. That includes assessing the sum total of the facts presented to them. It is far more important than memorizing names and dates in that History class. Asking "why" can be frustrating when they are asking that question of you, but in the real world it is the most important question.

For me, having been raised that way and also having raised my kids that way, it has worked very well. Have them think, not memorize. Teach them to respect their teachers and their fellow students, but have opinions formed from what they are presented.
