I plan to take an active role in my kids education. Not in the 'you'll teach my kids what and how I want' way, but more in the 'school teaches subjects and behavior, I'll support with skills and performance' way. I think parents need to work to be involved in order to participate and form a reasonable opinion.

Congrats Doc! Our daughter was born on June 21, and our next daughter is due June 12.

My best piece of advice, get a Sam's / Costco membership for formula if you are going that route. Way cheaper there than anywhere else.

As for you questions with schools, there are always going to be good teachers and bad teachers. You are not going to have things go 100% the way you want them to. But that is also life.

The only advice I have (and like someone else said, what may be great advice for one parent may not be for another), just do what you think is best for your children. There is no one way to do things. To me, as long as you have the best interest of your children at mind, most of the time, they will turn out alright.

You have plenty of time to think about schooling. For now focus on the pregnancy and being there for her and learning everything you can. Then you'll have 5 years or so to decide where he/she goes to school. You may even be living in a better school district by then.

I think maybe the child will have a bit of say about this. No matter how much you may prefer your child partake of a certain activity, the child will ultimately decide. If the kid don't like hockey, he's not gonna play it!

My oldest boy played ALL sports lights out! My younger one hates playing anything but soccer. On a baseball field, he would just sit down and play in the dirt.

Yes, that has been my worst fear, a faulty education on the history of the U.S, the humanities and arts, and that accepting "everyone" for "Who they are" is okay, and should be encouraged!

I do suspect that if you are looking for an education for your children that will, say, teach classical liberal principles and not focus on mushy crap like self-esteem and mindless moral equivalence, you are probably looking at a private school or home-schooling.
