he's damaged goods and becoming more of a malcontent. his commitment to the current coaching staff is questionable (haley in particular).

Not to mention the off field stuff.

Someone who can be reasonably expected to play in all games December 15 to the Super Bowl.

I can give you the name of one franchise that doesn't.

Thus why this will never happen.

So if you unload BRoeth, where are you getting a better QB? He was on his way to one of his best seasons before his injury. The Steelers have finally made an effort to putting together an offensive line. They can finish the job this offseason by dumping Colon and they'd have 5 competent linemen.

Revis went to my high school. I've been best friends with his "cousin" since 9th grade and I have his high school jersey signed. Did I mention I also met him?

I would kill for him to be on my favorite team

I recall hearing from Pitt coaches at the beginning of his final season that he would not take a meeting with the Steelers coaches and did not want to be drafted by them. Not sure how true it is, but I know that other Pitt guys have said similar things.

No one that is available. I'd just rather start over with a younger QB who wont complain about having to learn a new playbook, a cheaper cap hit and doesn't get fat every offseason.

Not to mention multiple rape accusations.

If you think that betters the team's ability to win, you have lost a lot of credibility. Teams have spent a dozen years of mediocrity looking for a Ben that can take them to the Steelers current level.

I don't really care about my credibility. I honestly just don't enjoy the steelers as much as I used to. I might just be fickle and use my dislike for roethlisberger as an excuse for that.

Probably would require some changes in other phases also... front office, coaches, game day staff. Lots of depth in Steelers culture.

If you would enjoy a mediocre Steelers team without Ben more than a winning team with Ben, then that's fine and it's your opinion. I just don't think a Ben-less Steeler team can win anything.

My concern over Ben is that he can/will muddle through 3-5 more seasons (likely without a championship). so then:

1.) They'd better hope that a true impact QB is within reach at the draft
2.) Or that they have drafted someone already, who will be in some position to run the offense

Maybe what I'm really saying is that this team could be in the doldrums for years.....I've seen it before, with a series of meh QBs.

The Steelers honestly had nothing but "meh" QB's between Terry Bradshaw, a season or two of Neil O'Donell, and Ben.

Yeah, even if I did my best to remove my personal disdain for the guy, I don't think Roethlisberger's playing style is conducive to much success going forward. He's just not capable of taking anywhere close to the beating he was accustomed to taking when he was younger. Can't really argue with the success he had playing that way and taking the team to 3 superbowls. He can always point to his success and say, why should I change my style? He wouldn't be wrong, but in terms of career longevity he needed to get better as a pocket passer by not taking hits. It also wouldn't hurt for him to be more committed to training and getting his body in better physical condition, that usually helps to prevent some of these injuries. But what do I know right? Really just my observations and feelings about the guy. Doesn't have the work ethic to be a better pocket passer or to be in optimal physical shape.

How about the only Super Bowls won in Pgh have been by stud QB's.
Stating the team would be better without Ben as the QB is akin to those who wanted Leftwich or Batch to play over Ben.
Wasn't his injury this year a freak injury? As I recall only 1 other athlete ever had a ribcage separation. No amount if training could have prevented that injury.

I just think they're better off beginning the search for that new stud QB as opposed to assumung the world is going to end if they ditch the franchise QB (worked pretty well for the colts)

How many QBs come out in the draft that are as good as Andrew Luck? He also was taken with the number 1 overall pick. The chances of the Steelers getting someone like him are slim. There are no obvious stud QBs in the draft this year.

I think their best option is going the Aaron Rodgers/Green Bay route. Get a guy and have him learn the system over the next year or two and get spot starts when Ben inevitably gets injured. Best case, he learns under Ben for a few years, worst you have a more competent back up than Byron or Batch who you can at least gameplan with.

in fact to follow up my last post, a guy who might fall to the 2nd round but could be a good QB with a few years under his belt is Mike Glennon from NCST. Big guy, strong arm from what I've seen, just shaky decision making that could be ironed out with a few years learning an offense and practicing under NFL coaches.

The next QB Pittsburgh gets needs to be a student of the game. A QB dedicated to his craft. I wish they had drafted Cousins last year. Thought he would do well in the NFL and in limited appearances has shown ability.
