Disney announces intent to release Star Wars 7,8,9

Postby ExPatriatePen on Wed Feb 06, 2013 10:04 am

Starting in 2015...

With the advances in cinematography, I'm really curious what they're going to come out with.

I'm torn on the stand alone movies, the rumor says Yoda will be the focus of the first outside of 7,8,9. I hope they can concentrate on a time outside of the movies already released. Like what the prequels did, it can take the mystery and excitement out of the originals.

I liked (to an extent) the prequels as well, but lets go somewhere new.

I don't know how much I'll like the stand alone films. I guess just because it took 30 years to make 6 films, and now they will be pumping them out, it just won't have the same excitement when a new one comes out.

Interested though in how they will do 7-9, because the story was pretty much known for the prequels.

are you for or against bringing back Luke, Leia, Han, etc as "mentors" for new jedis or should they just move along?

Has anything ever leaked about what Lucas envisioned for the final trilogy? I know there is some degree of revisionist history to his claims that he planned three trilogies all along, but I assume he had some idea about what would happen and has discussed this with Abrams.

I assumed this would happen.

Years ago my cousin said "these things are cash cows and are all relatively good. Why can't we get a movie about Han as a smuggler, or Yoda's young life," stuff like that. They don't have to be $200,000,000 productions that span the entire Star Wars universe.

I'm pretty sure this is still going to be a Lucas star wars story, he has all the outlines and details, it's just a matter of how involved beyond the pages he will be.

With JJ Abrahams doing this expect a mysteriously clouded veil on who exactly the bad guy is.

This was like 15 years ago, and it was speculation, but I've read where the story would be about remaining govenors from the empire that still ruled a few star systems would be out there and the fight would still be continuing even though the emperor was dead. And it would focus on the rise of the Jedi's and the restoration of the Old republic.

This is what the new trilogy should be. These books are very well written and have a great plot.

So they will be releasing Star Wars movies like they are The Land Before Time and continue them until pretty much every LGPer is dead?

I clearly remember reading when the first movies were out that the plan was for three trilogies. Never thought I'd see it happen.

Yes

Those books absolutely are 100% canonical. I'd love to see them serialized as films.

For example, altho the concept of a city-planet had existed in draft form in a couple of the film scripts, the first time the name 'Coruscant' appears in the SW universe (as the Imperial capital world) is in Zahn's "Heir To The Empire". And Talon Karrde's ship (Wild Karrde) has a cameo in, iirc, Ep II.
