I have to read the entire article, but just skimming through, that is crazy. I couldn't imagine being like 1 of 5 people in a region that is rough and having no one around for hundreds of miles for like 40 years.

lewis and clark told stories about some (Manadan?) indians that would routinely spend days in the snow on the great plains with just their clothes and a blanket as their only source of protection. kenny the kangaroo thinks about that sort of things when it seems like its too cold to even spend 3 minutes scraping ice off of the car.
