The judge can run his court however he likes within the law. If you don't respect the man responsible for setting your bail, you're setting yourself up for exactly what happened to this girl.

She was stupid, now she's paying for it.

If it weren't a judge, i'd say she did nothing wrong at all in that video. Being that it was a judge, you just have to deal with the person being an *******, you can't give them any justification to do anything else to you. Obviously though, being that she was in that situation to begin with, she is an idiot.

I think it was just the lack of respect during the whole hearing that pissed him off. She laughed the whole time and just the lack respect set him off.

Technically, it's not against the law, but if you have an authority figure in front of you that demands respect, then you better give it or you'll find yourself in this situation.

I don't get that at all. He saw the way she was acting and decided to go at her. Nothing wrong with it, she deserved it, but if he was "going to play nice", he wouldn't have decided to escalate things by doubling the bond. He knew what he was doing the moment she walked in.

The playing with the hair I would ring up to nervousness and I could see why he would get irritated by her answers, she's a moron, she thought she wasn't in any trouble and she was going to go change and go home. Who knows maybe this will straighten her up

The playing with the hair thing just seemed like a nervous habit. I agree with that. But she didn't really show respect of the either the situation or the judge. That is definitely something that makes me have little issue with how the judge responded. She needed a wake up call to mature. Hopefully this does it.

Is being in contempt of court "against the law"? I honestly have no idea. Can the judge basically do anything that he/she wants so long as it isn't harsher than a maximum sentence?

I'm just wondering where the first amendment fits in here. Shouldn't she be able to say/do whatever she wants so long as she isn't affecting anyone else? How is it different from calling a cop a name, which is perfectly legal?
