That loss took a lot of work on the part of a lot of players. Team effort.

Johnson got the loss and salt rubbed into the wound.

I'm not a big baseball guy but this seems incredibly stupid

Nobody left on the bench because he took his shots at winning earlier. If your players go 13 innings without delivering when they have chances it's hard to blame Hurdle.

The game's gonna end anyway, put in Cole or another pitcher with a better track record at the plate to pinch hit, even if they don't throw a pitch. If anything just so Johnson doesn't have to cap off his incredible day and end it at the plate.

in the grand scheme of things, the loss isn't that big of a deal. Johnson playing well in an extended appearance is a bigger positive than the loss is a negative.

that game isn't one to forget easily, but thank God they're still up, with Locke/Burnett hitting a little wall we need the offense to step up, but if the last two weeks are any indicator they're in trouble, and I don't see any help coming

I agree with this, Johnson did quite well and saved some bullpen arms for tomorrow.

In a vacuum, losing 2 of 3 to the dbacks who are fighting for their playoff lives right now isn't a big deal. But we've lost 6 of 8, so hopefully they turn it around quickly.

The first and last time I talked to Vincent was when he was saying the Winter Classic is more important than the Stanley Cup Finals, so knock yourself out

It was all the way back leading up to the Heinz Field WC. I called up on my lunch break I was so riled up lol. I *want* to give him the benefit of the doubt and say he was trying to mean money/ratings wise, but he was in no way conveying that.

Not at all. I'm a Buccos fan first.
I do think its interesting that when I called the pivot point, the part of the season where the Bucs would somewhat struggle, that I was met with such a response.
None the less, I have confidence this team will recover and be better for it.

I am not as confident as I was a couple weeks ago of them winning the division. I still think they easily make the playoffs. At least it is nice being IN the pennant race and being interested in baseball in late August. Also nice we don't have to play the Dodgers on this upcoming west coast trip. Them and Atlanta have been playing unreal baseball.

10 games against the Padres, Giants and Brewers.

I want to see (at least) 7 wins and then roll into the Cards series with some confidence.

It seems to be a startling revelation that the Pirates are not the best team in baseball.

Yeah, I'm not sure what is so surprising about this regression. They got to 26 games over .500 (or whatever it was) through a combination of ridiculous pitching from top to bottom, a lot of sabermetric luck, and did I mention pitching?

The last several weeks, the pitching is finally starting to show the cracks of regression, and they've gone 2-7 over the last 9 games. Even after the Cardinals series, I didn't think for a second they would win the division. They will end up in the 2nd wild card, IMO, which sucks because I like their chances at home against Cincy/STL better than on the road.

Regardless of what happens, they will finish well above where their talent indicates they should in all likelihood, unless they go on a 12-27 run to end the season or something.
