As long as he doesn't get caught in the next month and a half, I couldn't care less.

Pretty much, I think he's the first baseman for at least the near future. Even if he cools off he at least gives you a solid AB most of the time which is really nice to see.

According to Baseball Reference: .462 over the last 7 days, .345 over the last 14, and .298 over the past 28. He still sucks against righties (.206 for the season), but at this point I feel more confident in his ability to hit righties than Jones.

.206 is still .170 over what Jones has been hitting lately and he's a better fielder. Even Wile E. Coyote could make that call.

Of all the Pirates in the 1970's I think I enjoyed watching him hit more than anyone else except Clemente. That's saying something because they had quite the collection of hitters in those days.

I think one year all the regulars except the ss hit over .300 and that was with Alou and Mota both hitting over .300 while platooning in center. that could have been in the very late 60's while Harry the hat was manager. Sanguillen was my 2nd favorite behind Roberto because I loved the way he hit pitches that were ridiculously out of the strike zone and he used a phone pole sized bat. Manny would swing at anything from the ankles to the eyebrows.

One night at a game at old Forbes Field I saw Manny hit two home runs to center field (no easy task). Both pitches were above his shoulders. I saw that game with my mom and dad and I can still see it like it was yesterday.

Yes, on both counts. That's when I knew they were serious contenders.

06-28-1979: Traded by San Francisco Giants (with Lenny Randle and Dave Roberts) to Pittsburgh Pirates for Ed Whitson, Fred Breining and Al Holland.
08-31-1985: Traded by Pittsburgh Pirates to Los Angeles Dodgers for R.J. Reynolds, Cecil Espy and Sid Bream.

He was brought in to mash lefties and he's done just that- .326/.440/.539. He had 3 hits last night off lefties.

I don't know if I remember correctly or not, because I was only 7 and didn't understand, but I think it was Madlock that was pulled from a game I was at with my dad and grandpa, because I remember my grandpa saying "well, he was just traded".

For some reason, he always stuck in my head, but I have no proof of that.

I'll be at dinner w/my parents tonight. Do work, Hack Squad. Canaan may think you're terrible but I have faith in you. Well, everyone except Shafnutz.

Sanchez starting again tonight at 1B, as is Buck at C.

The Pirates botch a double play, and then Cole makes an absolutely abysmal throw to first. Lovely.

so... if a run is unearned because the pitcher committed the error, should that not really be an earned run since the pitcher earned it with his error?
