That was the starting sign of an injury with Grilli. Is it possible that its the same with Melancon?

Why didn't they let Morton try for the CG? I think he was only around 90 pitches. I just had a bad feeling when the 9th started.

He was in the high 90's - 98 IIRC. Clint isn't afraid of Morton so he pulled him. Had it been AJ he'd have sent him out for the ninth and pulled him after is was 7-2.

yeah, and if morton gave up the lead you'd all be complaining that they didn't go to melancon. it was the right move, give the ball to your lights out closer with a one run lead in the 9th.

I think he did the right thing. What bugs me is Hurdle sending AJ out the last two outings when he was clearing losing effectiveness and had a high pitch count. Hurdle did the right thing putting the ball in Melancon's hands. Melancon didn't get the job done and neither did our hitters.

Stick a fork in them. They'll probably back into the playoffs. But six against the Reds? Not liking it.

you're right they'll probably back in, but I have this nagging feeling if there's any team that can blow this lead, it's them.

I can see them clinching their spot with like 4 games left, which should not be the case. :(

Ian Kennedy has a 4.85 ERA. Should be down to the sub-3 range after today.

That might be enough to get them to the point in the game where our bullpen can put it of reach after Cole goes two batters too far.

I'm more shocked that he didn't get gunned down at the plate on the ground ball to third.

Nobody turns three or more baserunners into one or fewer runs like the Bucs.

Cole has turned into a strikeout machine over his last three starts.

68 pitches so far - he's headed for a relatively early shower though.
