Jose Mesa, but he was actually pretty serviceable until the wheels completely fell off.

Jose Mesa had one of the great all time pirate quotes when he was with the pirates. He once threatened to kill Omar Vizquel after Vizquel threw him under the bus for the Indian's blown world series. A reporter in pittsburgh asked him about it and mesa said something like "Thats not really what i meant, I'm not that kind of person."

Its great to know that jose mesa wasnt the kind of person to kill former teammates.

He was part of the Chad Hermansen trade, actually.

The Phillies have Rodrigo Lopez in their camp. Boston has The Virus in their camp. The Giants invited Boof Bonser. This is what teams do. They bring in old guys to soak up at-bats during the spring before dumping them. In the unlikely chance these players have juiced like mad in the offseason something left in the tank then the team has a free asset.

Fun with quotes taken out of context:

"It's tough being such a Rod fan, but, at the same time, I'm a Russell fan, too," Burnett said. "I had a great time in New York with him. He prepares well, he plays hard, and I think he's going to help us out a little bit."

As mentioned in the previous thread, I'll be checking out the SALLY League team in late April.
Who should I should look out for?

Not sure if Herrera and Heredia will be there? Probably Mathison, Barnes, Bell

Any word on where the pieces from the Hanrahan trade figure to start off in the organization?

Mark Melancon will be in the MLB bullpen
Jerry Sands will be on the fringe of MLB bench or AAA (I would guess AAA due to a crowded outfield). He has one minor league option remaining
Ivan DeJesus will go to AAA
Stolmy Pimentel is expected to go to AA (he has one minor league option remaining)

Even with trading Hanrahan I think the bullpen will be solid. I'd love to have Wilson and McPhearson in the pen.

17% chance to make the playoffs. If you played the 2013 season 6 times, one of those times things will break right for the Pirates to make the postseason. I'll take those odds.

The mets with a 25% chance...in that division, they shouldn't be higher than the Pirates.

The Orioles..wow, BP is a not believer.

IMO, this season would be the one that the Orioles make it. Yanks and Bo-Sox both aren't the teams they once were.

Toronto added a lot, and Tampa is still good. Baltimore didn't really add anything and they overachieved their expected record by 11 games. That's a bad sign.

That's probably the hardest division of all to predict. I can see the Red Sox and the Rays being the bottom dwellers in that division, and at the same time, i don't see the blue jays contending. I think Yankees and Orioles finish at the top of the division, assuming that Hammel and Chen are for real.

Interesting.

Yankees fans are already set to jump off the bridge, after an 85 win season....they are pretty old.

They're built for regular season success, they're lineup will just beat up on league average pitching. but when playoff time comes, it gets cold, and they get shut down by elite pitching.
