He wasn't let go, just took a promotion

Good for him though, seems like a nice guy. Signed my baseball when I was a little kid.. still have it somehow

Only other signed baseball I have is Stan Musial.... so distant second in that department

Take it for what it's worth, but I've heard through the grape vine, ie Bob Walk, that Neil Walker will be looking for McCutchen money

Cano has more of a chance at getting 300 million than Walker does of getting McCutchen money.

Walker is a nice player. But i'm not sure i'd want him even when he's in his final arbitration years (he'll be making around $10M).

Walker might get that if an owner of a Japanese team has heard his name before.

Good for him. If that's the price, the Pirates were wise to stay away I think.

I dont think the problem is affording it. I dont think they want to spend that kind of money on him and I cant blame them.

With Polanco being close, I would rather them spend that money on 1B. Let Tabata and Lambo platoon until Polanco is ready.

There is always going to be another Byrd available on the trade market come July/August, if need be.

Given Byrd's red flags I don't mind the Pirates letting him go. 1 year/8m wouldn't have been a bad idea but a 2 year deal with the internal options the Pirates have would not have been wise.

The bigger story is the Phillies refuse to admit it's over.

It sets up the phillies collapse next year when Byrd falls back to earth.
