Dude, the pirates deserve everything they get.

They can't hit and constantly try to win games 1-0.

If that continues, and what's to say it won't, the pirates will again sink to the bottom because the pitching won't keep this up.

whats that got to do with my post?

That loss was a bummer. Still really encouraging that Locke continues to be so good.

Saw something on Pirates Prospects that Walker has like a 400 OPS against LH pitching. I'm no longer considering him part of the core, and thank heavens they didn't give him an extension. So long term, I think he's just keeping 2B warm till they move Hanson off of SS. Short term, this lineup is one of the worst in the NL, you are essentially committed to the following players - McCutchen, Marte, Martin, Alvarez and Sanchez as a platoon player. I think they need to consider trades to address RF immediately, but they can also consider larger trades where ML guys like Walker can be moved.

I guess the only real revelation to me is that Walker doesn't need to be given AB's anymore and can be moved to shake up this team and try to bring some life to this offense.

I'm glad I never really jumped on the Walker bandwagon, as it was a good story destined to be a bad letdown. He seemed like he was going to sustain anything above average, I can't believe how long he did it.

The offense, I think most are still under achieving based on their historical numbers. McCutchen, Jones, Alvarez, Walker. Most of the improvement will come from there. They still desperately need a power bat in RF or 1B.

Walker should sit against most LH at this point, but there's no better option unless they make room for a guy like DeJesus.

who are you going to play at second instead of walker against lefties? Mercer? and then have barmes play short? Jay Hay?

kenny the kangaroo really isnt pro walker, it seems a bit shortsighted to write him off at this point

The problem is that McCutchen is the only player that you have to worry about every at bat. Everyone else is either unlikely to do any major damage ever or has glaring weaknesses. Even just one more threat in the lineup would make everyone better.

I'd give up Taillon and Sanchez in a heartbeat for Stanton.

I'm a bit wary of giving up Hanson because I think he's the future shortstop of the Pirates.

Just read the article, the pieces were Taillon, Polanco and Sanchez plus another prospect. Or Hanson in place of Sanchez.

Seems like a lot to give up. I certainly know that Stanton is highly valued, but Taillon and Polanco are already at AA. Usually these deals involve one guy who isn't proven at those levels (though I guess Polanco isn't necessarily proven yet).

The deal they compare it to is Miguel Cabrera going to Detroit with Andrew Miller and Cameron Maybin as the two prospects in the deal. Though neither of those guys was established in AA at the time.

Because they have no chance to compete for the three years they have him. They need all their prospects to come in one wave.. It's how they've always done it.

Stanton would probably get them into the playoffs as one of the wildcards this year. But they're not a world series team with him.

I just think the legit WS window is with Cole and Taillon, those two guys are the last two sure thing young talents in the organization. They aren't going to get those top picks again for a while, so I don't think you can move either of those guys as a team that needs cost certainty.

Guys like Polanco, Glasnow, Kingham....those are the pieces to move.

I'm pretty sure it was Polanco, not Hanson, that was mentioned in that prospective deal.

To me, that seems like a lot to give up. Taillon is a future ace, Polanco is a top prospect (but not really at a position of need), and Sanchez is the only catcher in the system and is having a pretty stellar year in Indy. It's going to be extremely unlikely that the Pirates will keep Burnett and Wandy after this season, thrusting Cole and Taillon into important roles in the rotation. But... Stanton is a machine and would immediately become the Pirates most feared offensive threat since probably Brian Giles.

The team needs offense bad, though.

Who are some other potential RFers that could be had?

Pence?

They're both mentioned. After the initial proposed trade he talks about the Marlins asking for Cole or Hanson.

I didn't mean the Pirates would get Pence, he's just the popular name floated around every trade deadline.

I'm fine with giving up a haul for Stanton, I think he's worth it. I'd just rather see a guy in A ball go over Polanco, like a Josh Bell, given the history of these deals.

The only untouchable to me would be Cole, but I think trying to get Stanton is the right move.
