I thought that was going to drop in for a second there.

Epically bad version of Take Me Out to the Ballgame.

Thankfully with Bylsma in charge we will never have to hear Craig Adams and Geno butcher the 7th inning stretch at a Pirates game.

I'd pay good money to hear Geno sing that.

In Russian :pop:

English would be much more entertaining.

After a somewhat shaky start, Liriano ends up with a great outing, in addition to his offensive contributions.

Would be kind of nice to see a routine end to this game, Grilli is making me increasingly nervous over his last several appearances.

After the way Searage gave the thumbs up, I wouldn't doubt Liriano goes out for the 8th, especially if the Pirates drive in this run.

Marte's ability to get on base is a big part of the reason this team's record is so good.

6-2 Bucs. RBI groundout by Cutch means Melancon and Grilli will sit down unless MATW decides to make things interesting.

Bases loaded for Tabata, who is eager to swing at the first pitch and ground out.

Bingo. Having a fast leadoff hitter that can hit for contact and get on base is nice

He's doing well and isn't at a ridiculous pitch count. Leave Liriano in and let him go for the CG. Give the pen some rest for once.

You could make a pretty solid non-statistical argument that Martin is this year's MVP.

I was just coming on to say that Russell Martin is this team's MVP in the first half.

I agree - Martin might have saved his chances right there. What a gun.

Have I mentioned lately how wrong I was to question that signing?

Martin's throws and hits have been incredibly timely. I know WAR is against a generic replacement, but would love to see his WAR against Barahahahas or Da Fort

I don't think Barahahahahas' WAR even registers.

His is more a WBR, Wins Below Replacement.

Baseball Reference has him at 3 wins above replacement coming in to today. McKenry is -0.4 this year and was 1.8 last year. Carcass was -0.9 last year and the worst of the Pirates hitters in terms of WAR.

Cutch leads the team with 4.4 WAR and Marte is 2nd with 3.7, which is why I said "non-statistical". The numbers say Martin isn't the most valuable, but he's such an upgrade over what they got from the catcher spot last year that it makes him seem much more valuable.

EDIT- meant to include pitchers. Locke is 2.5 WAR, Melancon and Liriano 1.8, Burnett 1.2, Wilson 1.1. No one else over 1 WAR. Fangraphs may be different because they calculate WAR differently but those numbers make sense.

I completely agree. It's been amazing to watch him defensively, and his offensive contributions have been solid

It's funny because, as amazing as he seems on our team, he's still only an above average catcher. He's not a top 5 catcher or anything by any means but compared to what we've seen behind the plate the past few years he looks like a HOF'er. Just having somebody back there who can be a solid bat and good defensive catcher has done wonders for this team.
