There isn't a way to...is there? (Pittsburgh travel related)

Postby mikey287 on Wed Feb 20, 2013 7:06 pm

Question for Pittsburgh area residents,

I'll be out in Mt. Pleasant this weekend for some silly league's national championships hoopla whatever...there are games scheduled for Friday night during the Pens/Panthers game, so I can't make it to that. The group of us, is heading back Sunday (early, I'd guess) however, as a Penguins fan, I'd find it silly to get all the way out that far and NOT see the Penguins play...they play, on my birthday, against Tampa Bay. I had the thought of staying behind and going to the game and then taking the train back to Philadelphia or whatever...

My only issue is that, there's probably no way via public transportation, to pull off the Mt. Pleasant to Pittsburgh part of the journey is there? A small search for something came up empty, just wanted to know if anything exists nearby that gets me into the city?

You could arrange a cab to pick you up and take you to the Amtrak station.

He needs to get from Mt. Pleasant to Pittsburgh via public transportation. That, as far as I'm aware, isn't possible. Mikey, your best bet would honestly be to rent a car.

Unfortunately I don't think the FACT bus runs down to Pittsburgh lol This is more of Mac's area but there are trains that run in Connellsville. (Which is close to Mt Pleasant) Don't know where they all go but I never been on them. PM Mac, he might know more.

The first response did not disappoint, I thought most of them might sound like that from what sparse knowledge I have of the city's innerworkings.

I'll keep an eye on the thread and see if anything pops up. If not, I'll explore other options...thanks all

So I did further research...

+ Connellsville has an Amtrak station and it goes to Pittsburgh!
- The train runs once on Sunday and arrives after the Lightning game would be well underway...

+ Greensburg has an Amtrak station and it goes to Pittsburgh!
- The train runs once on Sunday and arrives after the Lightning game would be well underway...

Ah well...maybe it just wasn't meant to be this time around...I've found out about this megabus thing, seems like a whale of a deal, like $30 something to go from Philly to Pittsburgh ($49 from Philly to Toronto is way cheaper than any other motorized method I gotta believe)...so I guess I'll make a separate trip out, get some work done on the way...still haven't been to the new arena, was at the Igloo before it bit the dust though, fortunately...

It seems like Mt. Pleasant is just short of usual civilization...I think this is the place we were at when we stumbled across that Pizza Hut that sold six packs...a one stop shop for a hockey team...

There is a Greensburg to Pittsburgh Saturday bus: http://www.westmorelandtransit.com/schedule.html
There's also a Scottdale to Greensburg bus that appears to stop at the Walmart in Mt. Pleasant. Not sure where you're at. If you're at Hot Shots it'd be a bit of a walk, maybe a mile.

If you're done by noon or so, you could catch the 1:18 to Greensburg, hop on the 2:30 to Pittsburgh and be pre-gaming by 4:15.

There is a Sunday Bus from Donora to Pittsburgh, you just need to get to Donora...which is about 20 miles west of Mt. Pleasant.

Is it just you? My sister dates the owner's son at hot shots. She works there. He plays for the Inferno team. Let me check and see some connections.

Do you know any of the guys on opposing teams? I am pretty sure sister and her bf have tix to the game however it is also his birthday so they probably have some lovey dovey things planned.

Don't walk to walmart. It wont be fun

This appears to be your best option. It would drop you off downtown at the Greyhound station. It also stops in Monessen and Charleroi but they are all about the same distance from Mt. Pleasant. They are, however, in the opposite direction your buddies will be using to head back to Philly. I got nothing to get you from Mt. Pleasant to Donora, though.

There appears to be a Yellow Cab in Mt. Pleasant.

I've lived here all my life and cant ever recall seeing a cab, but it's worth a shot to call:

Pittsburgh's public transit is underrated. Servicing so many suburbs with homes that drive is difficult, and it does a great job with commuters during the rush hours, the predominant use of PAT.

What's so bad about that walk? I don't know what road that is that takes you to Walmart that comes off 119, but I don't think it's too bad to walk on is it? I can't remeber; I haven't been down that way or to Hot Shots in several years.

What are you doing about your hockey gear? Am I correct in seeing you'll be at Hot Shots to play in a tournament?

On a nice sunny day in June, it might be a nice walk. On a 25* rainy day in february it would suck.

For the record, if you do want to walk to walmart, walking to County Market bus stop would save u about 8-10 minutes.
