Are car seats required by law or just recommended? Just curious. I hate (human) kids and would never want one, but if I did have one I don't think I'd put it in a car seat unless forced too. Kid needs to learn toughness and agility.

Rav4s are good cars. I have one and there is plenty of room. In fact i think it has the same interior room as a highlander. It gets good gas mileage, depending on the type of cylinder you get.

Ha...they are required. But I enjoyed reading your post. There are "laws" and "recommendations" as well. Obviously, you have to follow the laws at least. Even if they weren't laws...still a good idea because your kid wont fit those big seatbelts...I am picturing an infant that can't sit up just wrapped in the seatbelt a few times and buckled in...haha

I feel the same way about seatbelts: why bother for kids?

I mean, you can always make more of them.

I am OK with this, unless you have real good advice on a larger SUV...2 kids and space for stuff is OK. We dont NEED to fit another person. Just a nice option.

If you want that option and want an SUV, I would look at something with a third row seat like a Pilot. Just know you'll lose most of the cargo space when the seat is up. We have one with our Mercury Mountaineer. All three of our kids fit in the back seat now, but it's nice when they have friends or visitors to put the seat up and drive around town.

If you put an infant in front of the passenger seat on the floor, they can only roll around so much.

They tend to cry when jostled, it's easier to just put them in the seat.

Wouldn't the soothing, rocking motion of the road lull them to sleep?

Thats why I have a bose sound system. No need to hear them. Do infants like heavy bass?

Survey says: No.

Besides, sure I can have more kids if something happens. But that just delays the time when they start to do the yardwork, cleaning and supporting me when I'm old and decrepit.

We have a Mazda 5, small minivan. It is a touch too small for us with 3 kids but probably perfect with 2. It replaced a Town and Country which had plenty of room but was always broken.
