Eh. I mean, obviously at this point, whatever, haha, but I still fail to see what genre has to do with it. Crappy sci-fi shouldn't take away from good sci-fi, crappy horror shouldn't take away from good horror, same goes for action, drama, etc.

Just 'cause there is an over-abundance of craptastic rom-coms being made all time shouldn't affect the validity of a movie that happens to fall under that category, which is kind of the vibe I'm getting from what you're saying (though if I'm off-base here, let me know). If a movie is good, it deserves recognition, regardless of what it's about.

The people cast in Silver Linings Playbook can actually act. Thie movie (I'm assuming, never saw it) is a bad movie with lousy actors.

Actually, never saw SLB either, but everyone in it can act.

There was also nothing said about Romantic Comedies in that post.

He asked what was conceptually different about it from "Love Happens" which, you apparently did not know, is a romantic comedy.

So I still have no idea what you're talking about.

In the past 2-3 decades, crappy horror has been redundant.

Maybe this is the female equivalent to Heath Ledger winning for The Dark Knight. Action movies, ESPECIALLY comic book movies, don't usually get any recognition from the academy regardless of quality. Rom com's are on the exact other end if the same spectrum. But is this movie even a rom com? Seriously. I don't know.

Tron Legacy :pop:

Though I suppose I could water down the premise and include every movie where the main character is sucked into a digital medium, since that's basically what it's about.

Assuming that Love Happens is bad without seeing it is different than assuming SLP is good without seeing it? And Aaron Eckhart and Jennifer Aniston are both good enough actors.

Speaking of Jennifer Aniston...a more famous Jennifer Lawrence. Haven't seen either of them do anything special and neither stands out among their peers when it comes to looks.

Silver Linings Playbook also received a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. I enjoyed this description of it:

It's a rom-com that succeeds in revitalizing that discredited genre where so many others have failed, injecting it with the grit and emotion of realist drama rather than with amped-up whimsy or social satire or montages of people walking on the beach.

No, that's pretty much the same scenario, you're right. And agreed, especially with the former -- Eckhart is solid.

But assuming SLP is bad because Love Happens is bad is where the issue is, I think.

Just curious... could you provide your list of talented, A-list actresses who are also really, really, ridiculously good-looking? I can't imagine it being very long.

I don't see the Jennifer Aniston comparison at all. At age 22, Aniston was a failing actress that appeared in a string of total flops. Lawrence has shown a great deal of dramatic versatility in her roles thus far, and has been critically lauded.

Even giving Aniston the next 20 years of her career, she has pretty much been pigeonholed into Friends, and as far as films go, in virtually every movie she plays the romantic interest of someone else (and that's a primary plot theme in the movie).

I mean, have you seen Lawrence in Winter's Bone? She was fantastic in that movie.
