being an illegitimate oscar nominee and sucking horribly are 2 different things. i don't think Rom Coms, or simple Rom Drams (is that a term?) should be part of that oscar arena. i mean...i don't really lose sleep over awards shows, but something about this movie is touching a nerve for some reason.

Eh. I mean, obviously at this point, whatever, haha, but I still fail to see what genre has to do with it. Crappy sci-fi shouldn't take away from good sci-fi, crappy horror shouldn't take away from good horror, same goes for action, drama, etc.

Just 'cause there is an over-abundance of craptastic rom-coms being made all time shouldn't affect the validity of a movie that happens to fall under that category, which is kind of the vibe I'm getting from what you're saying (though if I'm off-base here, let me know). If a movie is good, it deserves recognition, regardless of what it's about.

Maybe this is the female equivalent to Heath Ledger winning for The Dark Knight. Action movies, ESPECIALLY comic book movies, don't usually get any recognition from the academy regardless of quality. Rom com's are on the exact other end if the same spectrum. But is this movie even a rom com? Seriously. I don't know.

No, that's pretty much the same scenario, you're right. And agreed, especially with the former -- Eckhart is solid.

I don't see the Jennifer Aniston comparison at all. At age 22, Aniston was a failing actress that appeared in a string of total flops. Lawrence has shown a great deal of dramatic versatility in her roles thus far, and has been critically lauded.

Even giving Aniston the next 20 years of her career, she has pretty much been pigeonholed into Friends, and as far as films go, in virtually every movie she plays the romantic interest of someone else (and that's a primary plot theme in the movie).

I mean, have you seen Lawrence in Winter's Bone? She was fantastic in that movie.
