First Woman to tryout for the NFL

Postby Dickie Dunn on Mon Mar 04, 2013 9:31 am

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2013/03/03/lauren-silberman-female-kicker-nfl-tryout-ends-with-injury/1960553/

And she had no business doing so. What a complete joke. What bothers me most isn't that it was a BS publicity stunt by both Silberman and the NFL, it isn't that she had no experience kicking a football and thus had no business being there, and it isn't that this denegrates any true attempt by a woman to make the NFL; it's that now we're starting to get the plethora of nonsense human interest stories from the likes of Good Morning America who are trying to sell the "making a team didn't matter, what matters is proving that women can play with the men" crap. She attempted two kickoffs and neither made it more than 20 yards. She can't play with the men. She should be chastised, not celebrated.

"There is no way I would ever do that unless I was in the absolute best shape of my life and could really compete with these guys," Hnida said. "These guys are good. This is not a joke. It didn't appear she was mentally or physically prepped for an elite-athlete tryout."

she was injured prior to kicking and went through with it because she paid the $275 reg fee. i dont blame her. making this into a story seems like fish in a barrel for some beat writer wanting to get attention and denigrate female athletes.

She didn't try to sell her newly started business in this interview? That's news in itself.

She's also wearing soccer shoes from the year 2000. I had the same Adidas Predators in high school and I graduated in 2001. Doubt she was playing too much soccer either

it is low hanging fruit for people who want to write some stupid story on either side of the "debate"...but that was a sad effort. david akers (a mediocre NFL kicker) was limping around in the SB, but still getting the ball into the end zone. you could give any NFL-caliber kicker the same injury and they'd be able to not look like they were booting the ball at a 5th grade soccer game.

The part about her not knowing how to put the ball on the tee and not knowing how many steps back and to the left (or right?) to take was pretty funny

Yeah Lauren, keep telling yourself that. :face:

Does she really think a team is gonna retain her if she can't get the ball past the opponent's 30 50 or if she can't get the ball high enough to clear the crossbar of a goal post? Yes, despite what you might think, length has a lot to do with it.

Spoiler:
and that is definitely what she said. :fist:

I'm sure some of the US Women's Soccer Team could kick a football pretty far if they trained for it for a month or so. But who is this chick?
