I have never heard of an airline doing this. Kudos to United.

Its a cool story, but am I the only one thinking about how sickly ironic and horribly unfair it would be if there were another person trying to get home to see someone before the end, but they held it together throughout everything and ended up not making it in time because no one knew to be concerned?

In many ways i'm an extremely optimistic person, but I often can't help thinking about how doing something for someone can adversely affect many others. Its good PR, but there are probably a good number of people on a tight schedule on every flight who got screwed. How long was it delayed.

This is dangerous territory...agreeing with me on something that may be considered insensitive. Tread softly.
