If they select Turkson, will black smoke emanate from the chimney instead?

And who wears skirts.

Always a safe bet for an institution which fears and despises women.

I like this Angelo Scola guy.

Wikipedia wrote:In a review of Cardinal Scola's 1996 book, The Nuptial Mystery, Luke Timothy Johnson writes in Commonweal magazine that Scola's "condemnation not only of abortion and of genetic engineering, and of birth control, but also of feminism, of homosexuality, and of cultural traits Scola associates with feminism and homosexuality, namely individualism, libertinism, relativism, narcissism, and even nihilism.

According to the critic Johnson, "the cardinal’s logic, in fact, seems to be that feminism is responsible for homosexuality, because the more women act like men, the more men are likely to want to have sex with other men."

Sounds like he has the 12th-century mindset appropriate for a pope.

In fact, if he regresses a bit further, he could be Antonin Scalia.

Well, here we go. I wonder what name the new pope might take. Personally, I would love to see the pope go trolling and choose the name Sixtus. The next pope with that name would be Sixtus the sixth (Sixtus sextus in Latin), which would probably give the media fits as they try to say it.

Definitely going to be Italian. Probably from Rome. I'd also guess he will be "young".

Day 1 ends with no pope. This may take longer than last time. Traditionally, a 2/3 supermajority was needed to be elected. John Paul II changed that to a simple majority, so Benedict XVI only needed 50% + 1 to be elected. After his election, he changed the rules back to a 2/3 supermajority, so whoever ends up pope this time needs more votes than the last time.

Last time they had months to prepare for the vote since Paul's health was declining. This time they only had a month. Could be a few weeks...
