RIP Margaret "Iron Lady" Thatcher

Postby blackjack68 on Mon Apr 08, 2013 2:33 pm

Personally liked her and her relationship with Reagan in the 80s.

I know many will disagree, but may she rest in peace.

(Meryl Streep gave a great performance as her in Iron Lady.)

It was always fascinating listening to the sessions of the British Parliament when she spoke. Through the grumblings, jeers and moans of those not in her party, she stood firm and never backed down.

Some UK newspapers are blocking discussions under the articles discussing her death. Plus, some unintended humor:

Twitter hashtag #nowthatchersdead has been breaking records; however, many people understood it that it was not the politician, but the pop singer Cher who died.

Definitely a pivotal figure as the Cold War wound down in the 1980s, and a very polarizing figure (not that it's a bad thing). RIP.

In her pre-politics job as a chemist, Thatcher helped invent soft-serve ice cream:

Funny, because the same substance (milk), also lead to one of her famous political mistakes ("Margaret Thatcher, Milk Snatcher"):

This wasn't a thread that would get much attention given the media'a new role of furthering lefty agendas. As far as Thatcher coverage versus pop stars the same thing happened with the Lady Di veneration versus the non-coverage of Mother Theresa when she died. The media was shamed (a huge task) into an hour's coverage of Mother Theresa's funeral after round the clock coverage of some media bimbo darling's 24/7 mourning.

Yes. maybe a slight exageration. Her contributions versus Mother Thereasa's can't even be neasured. I know she opposed land mines. Sort of equivalent to opposing leprosy. I view her as a rich, royal, with good PR advice celebrity. Sort of like a Kimmy K with a manufactured conscience.

At least someone didn't start this thread with the same ill will that the 'Hugo Chavez Dies' thread generated. Maggie got her RIP from you all, so here's my BIH.

List her monumental accomplishments; versus mother Theras's. Or versus the evil ,sinister Thatcher' She managed to drastically reduce unemployment and reverse a failed socialistic government. Of course the efforts to reduce the population to the same miserable level of existence always angers the bid government daydream believers. Oh Brave new world.

So the world wasn't allowed to mourn Lady Di because Mother Teresa happened to die at about the same time? This doesn't sound slightly pathetic to you?

Mother Teresa: "I think it is very beautiful for the poor to accept their lot, to share it with the passion of Christ. I think the world is being much helped by the suffering of the poor people."

The royalty is stupid (but harmless), though they do help to pump the tires of the London tourist economy.
I won't quibble with your fatigue over her death coverage, but that's the way of celebrities....Nothing new there.
