Just got my first post college job in Plymouth Meeting PA

Postby thepittman on Tue Apr 09, 2013 5:33 pm

It's in Plymouth Meeting, pa. Moving into enemy territory, anyone have any tips or suggestions for someone moving into the philly region?

Congrats on the job.

I don't have any tips for you, but half the board lives in Eastern PA. Someone should help you out.

fact, you may want to change the thread title to say as much.

I lived in King of Prussia for 2 1/2 years. It was fun right out of school, but after a while I got tired of it. It's an expensive, congested area.

From what I remember, the traffic on 276 flowed into King of Prussia in the morning and out to Plymouth Meeting in the afternoon, so KoP would be an (expensive) option if you want to be close to the mall, bars, etc.

If you haven't lived out that way, accessibility to New York and Washington D.C. is great for weekend get aways. You are probably a 1/2 hour car ride to the train station in Trenton or Princeton Junction and then a cheap hour or so ride to the middle of Manhattan. You could leave Plymouth Meeting at 4:00 and be in your seat for a game at the Garden by the time the puck drops.

I have a friend that lives in Plymouth Meeting and I live about a half hour away. Avoid the turnpike during rush hour if you can. The Plymouth Meeting exit is extremely crowded especially later on. Chestnut Hill isn't too far from there which is an alternative bar scene compared to KOP. Kunda Beverage near KOP carries Penn Brewery and Iron City.

I've zoned in on an apartment in Plymouth Meeting I'm going to see on thursday. I'll be like 6 miles from work and only have to take surface streets.

900 with everything included except for electricity. Sounds like a good deal right now and a cheaper place for a year will help me feel out the area.

Thanks for the advice guys, I love to put together some pens fan gatherings for games if that is something you would be into. I'm not going to really know anyone in the area, so I wouldn't mind meeting some of you.

I interned in Wayne (main line area) one summer. It sucked. Traffic and yuppies, and people overall seemed very unfriendly, and I'm trying to say that being an objective Pittsburgher. It seriously influenced me to turn down the full-time job there after senior year.

I plan on eventually moving back west, but this job is too good to pass up and I'll pickup a lot of good experience. I lived in Iraq for 2 years, I figure I can deal with philly people for a few.

Why the hell would you want to live in Iraq for 2 years?

You just made the day for my infantile self! I dare you to google what "Kunda" means in Czech!! I double-dare you!!!

If that's the family name, then no wonder they had to move across the ocean! :D

The correct answer is Chubbs or D'Alessandro's, then Pat's.

Nice! I'm about 15 minutes from there. Great location and close to everything. The turnpike isn't too terrible... the road you really want to avoid is 476.

But yeah, pretty much everything you need within a 5 mile radius. Cool place to live.

I'm here and enjoying it so far. The job is good and people are friendly. I guess only having to work 7 hours a day and get paid for 8 helps
