Bettie was the best heavyweight back ever.

He deserves to be in. Add in career numbers, rookie of the year, pro bowls and a ring, it's a no brainer.

Seattle's been better all year. Their offense lately terrifies me (Russell Wilson has looked like Aaron Brooks backpedaling 30 yards every throw) but I still think they win.

Bettis is a HOF back. I think his later years are making people forget how awesome he was.

Kaizer is a Hawks fan and he's a cool dude. So for his sake I hope the Hawks win. Plus I like more players on the Hawks than on the Broncos even though the Hawks are the 49ers biggest rival.

So I'll go with 20-14 Seattle. Kazier gets drunk and celebrates tonight.

Go Seahawks. I dislike Denver. Never liked Elway and don't want to see Peyton walking across the NY harbor after the game after his coronation as greatest athlete of all time.

When there is a really weak class he will get in.

When Bettis retired he was 5th overall in career rushing yards and in the top-10 in rushing TDs. He broke 1,000 yards in 8 of his first 9 seasons before reinventing himself as a short-yardage plowhorse at the end of his career. If being one of the top 5 rushers in the history of the game isn't HOF-worthy, what is?

I don't think he is one of the top 5 rushers in the history of the game. I know what the numbers say, I just don't think he is HOF material. You ask someone to name 5 or 10 of the top running backs in NFL History and I don't think Bettis is near that list. You call it reinventing hiimself at the end of his career, I call that not being good enough to be an every down back and just number piling. Bettis was a fantastic running back don't get me wrong, but I just think the HOF should be for really special players. There are quite a few players in there now that I don't think should be in. It should be an elite group to call yourself one of the best ever. That's why I call it the hall of very good, and why I think Bettis will get in eventually... he was very very good.

So if I can't use stats to measure a player, what can I use?

I laugh at anyone that doesn't think Bettis is HOF. He is the only eligible running back in the top 14 to not be inducted. He averaged a 1,000 yards a season. Not many NFL running backs can do that over 13 seasons.

Exactly. If he hadn't been wearing black and gold, he'd be in. Same with LC Greenwood.

I'm saying to use more than just stats. Either way .. neither one of us is going to change the others opinion so I'll just agree to disagree.

I love hearing 8 times a year how every road game sounds like a Steeler home game, how STEELER NATION IS EVERYWHERE and there are steeler bars all over the country because everybody loves them so much..then something like this happens and now theres a bias against the black and gold. If people didnt pencil him in as first ballot the day he retired just because he was a Stiller, there wouldnt be much to be upset about. Same thing is going to happen with Ward. If he doesnt make first ballot it will be treated as a travesty.

You act like the HOF has some bias against the Steelers, I'd have to look it up, but I'm assuming they probably are in the top 5 in regards to teams of players in the HOF.

You have to account for the Pittsburgh mentality that the world is out to get them.

I truly feel Bettis is a first ballot HOF'er, but not that the voters have some anti-Steeler bias (that's ridiculous). Can't we just disagree with them on this one player?

For how long was Bettis pretty much the Steelers offense? Terrible passing game, have a ball control offense even though teams stacked the line, and let the D hold on.. They were pretty successful at it given the QBs they had.

The guy was very special and I think there are routinely people getting in who Bettis is better than, but o well.

To compare him to Ward is also ridiculous (based on other wr's not yet in... Ward doesn't belong), but I don't think they'll be same response to Ward. "Is Hines Ward a HOF'er" is always a sterotypical Pittsburgh debate, and that'll continue... With Bettis everyone just (rightly) assumed that he'd get in right away.
