Yeah, I remember hearing about this guy's court appearance last month. Quite a piece of work.

Apparently they're trying to use an insanity defense

well, he was 17 at the time of the killings and there have been previous cases that have ruled death penalty and life in prison with no parole for a minor is cruel and unusual punishment.

Based on his behavior, what's the probability that, if released, he does this again? I'd say considering he was inciting the parents and decided to go off during the sentencing, it's pretty high. If that's the case, why have the option for him to be released?

I understand, and am with you bhaw, I'm just explaining why he's appealing the sentence.

It's times like this where I'd wish I'd bring back the bronze bull.

PG published some of the things he said in the courtroom... more than disturbing... don't click thru if you plan to keep faith in humanity:

This is a tricky topic but death penalty life in prison and the court system in general needs re-worked. So much tax payer money is wasted. In a case where the person says guilty and its 100% no question, then 24 hr later dead (lethal injection, firing squad, whatever), dont waste appeals and a full life of shacking up in the big house on a piece of scum. Even if the person claims insanity what were going to waste more money to get Drs involved to try and figure out what happened and that goes no where. No just be done with it so the people affected can have some closure and move on.
