I saw the initials LGP.com on a banana sticker and decided to see what it was about.

The funny part of my story is I knew of LGP long before I ever looked at the old boards. The informational side of LGP, admin's tiresome work of the game and player databases. I think I finally opened the message boards in 2004 at some point, after having perused the main information for 5-6 years before that, probably back to the tail end of the Jagr era. Once I started posting, I would post from one of home/work as relantel, and the other as my real name.

Here's a take-me-back, the LGP page as it existed on 5/18/2001, round about the first posting of Karsh's column:
http://web.archive.org/web/200104181510 ... opens.com/

And Big McK had the POTW:
PensBoard POTW:

The single man -

Much has been made about Mario's return to hockey. But Mario isn't the key player...

Jaromir Jagr's public comments and on-ice attitude made headlines and had fans divided about granting his wish for a trade. With Mario returning to take the spotlight and media attention away, Jagr could just be what he is -- a great player, without being what he isn't -- a great captain. Jagr isn't the key single player...

Ivan Hlinka, new to big-league coaching on small ice surfaces, and new to the city, made some rookie mistakes but once the ship was righted and Mario lent him some advice, Ivan didn't look as lost or frustrated behind the bench. Ivan, while important in his role, isn't the single man...

We start the series with three different goalies and individual attitudes. One, so surprised and happy to be playing for an NHL team after seeing the early part of his season in the minors. Another has just returned from an injury and from what the street seems to feel, will not be back next season. The last, has done everything he could to prove that he deserves big-league money and from my point of view, has been pushed to the back of the line.

Whichever goalie is playing, it will seem like a single man must be ready to earn the confidence and enough respect of the coaches, players and fans to carry us for 16 games to ultimate victory. It's a huge task for a single man to perform and a task that begins today...

Let the games begin and bring on the Caps!!!
- Big McK

He was right. The next day, my house was raided by some crazy drunks looking for bananas for their daiquiri blender.

Ditto. That was in like 98, 99, 00? Don't remember, but I know I was already here when I worked at Universal. Cos I was able to send Admin a whole boat load of ABBA CDs to thank him for his tireless efforts.

One of the first things I did when my family got an Internet connection was search for Penguins sites. I found this one and IR. Have been a member ever since.

The game database is what originally brought me me to lgp. Back in the early 00's it blew me away. Then one day decided to read the message board when I got tired of the pens official website board. Juices thread of randomness, pro wrestling thread, and the stuff during free agency/trade deadline keep me coming back.

I think it was some time after the Crosby lottery when I was looking for somewhere to talk Pens and I stumbled upon it... probably from the main page. I found out that wallflower already occasionally posted at that time.

Visited here when I was on the main board, got approved, got banned for joking about a french player being a "frog" left for a while. Pens main board switched over to NHL boards and was unusable then I started posting here full time. The main board has still never recovered and really is a wasteland.

Honestly, my story is a lot like PFIDC's used to post on the official Pens board and did not like. A friend told me about this place.
