... and I think I like it.
Pay just for the equipment. $150 for the Telo - got a code to lower it to $140 - which is the main piece and all you need, unless you decide to add some other items. Free phone service for life. All you pay is the tax, which currently is about $3 a month. Sound quality seems very good. You can use your own phones, like I had a set of two nice 5.8ghz phones from Uniden still unpacked from what I was planning to do a year ago but never did. They're working perfectly. That Telo base is quality. Lights up all nice. You can even adjust the brightness of those blue lights on it if it's to be used in your bedroom. I just connected it to the empty port on my router and that's it. Free for life for the basic plan, which is enough for most people. There is a premium plan at $9.99 I might get for better international calling, but even that is a very good price. I still have to consider between the two plans, but so far I think it's a keeper.
I was choosing between Ooma, Vonage ($30/month and an awful customer service), NetTalk Duo, and MagicJack. Ooma seemed like the clear winner in quality, value, and customer service (50% of reviews for NetTalk and MagicJack are frightening).
I talked with Ooma's customer service 3 times already, asking questions and for setup help and I got through immediately and it was very friendly. http://ooma.com/http://ooma.com/shop
