HTC One v. Samsung Galaxy S4

Postby vjx67 on Thu Jun 13, 2013 3:01 pm

i was wondering if anyone out there has either of these phone and would be willing to offer some insight. i've heard great things about each, and the comparisons/contrasts between the two have been well documented. specifically, i was hoping that someone might be able to tell me about his or her own personal experiences with the phone(s) with respect to general every-day usability (e.g. phone size/heft, apps, lag time, photos, battery life, etc.).

the bad news is that i'm stuck with verizon and have to wait for the htc one to come out if i go that route. they've been terrible when it comes to providing release details (see: http://www.gottabemobile.com/2013/06/13/verizon-htc-one-launch-hysterically-bad/), but if the one is really better, i'm willing to wait. that said, if the s4 really is the better phone, why wait? as with most gadgets, ASAP ASAP ASAP! :D

I've been using HTC Android phones since the G1. I currently have a One S, which is (was?) the top end HTC phone on Tmobile (not exactly something to brag about).

What phone do you have now? What does it do that you like, and what do you wish it could do?

Pros for this model: long battery life, FM tuner, larger screen, responsive. Seems to be powerful enough to decode HDTV recordings.

Cons: Wifi has a known bug that disconnects. I can't type on it to save my life.

Hopefully they improved the keyboard accuracy for the S4.
I have an S3 and I'm not sure I would buy another Android, simply because of that......back to the iPhone in the future.

You realize there are around 100 different keyboards you can use with android and you aren't limited to the stock keyboard unlike the iPhone?

What a ridiculous complaint.

i'd wait for the galaxy note 3 that will come out in about 3-4 months or the nexus 5 which will be out around the same time.

I have the note ii and love it. I downloaded adifferent keyboard, and the swipe and type is fast and awesome. The iphone keyboard sucks, especially with numbers

yeah, once you get used to using a note 2 i have no idea how you could go back to a smaller screened phone. note 2 has ruined other phones for me.

I tend to keep my phones for quite a while, so the fact that the HTC One has a non-replaceable battery is a deal-breaker for me. I don't think I've ever owned a cell phone where I didn't at some point replace the battery due to noticeably shortened battery life. I would be tearing my hair out if two years down the road a full charge only lasts six hours and I can't swap in a new battery.

I've tried about 5 of them and they ALL suck.
Why not, you know, write a native one that actually works.

Just checked to see which Droid keyboard I use. It's SwiftKey, and it's amazing.

The funny thing is that I exclusively used different flavors of Linux and FreeBSD for a decade at home and then bought a Mac in December.
I figured I'd get an Android because it was super cheap and just to avoid software monoculture.

Aside from the nice screen size, I'm pretty unimpressed.

HTC One > S4

There actually more evidence to the contrary but I really really like the HTC one and will be getting it as soon as it comes out for Verizon
