You're missing the point. It becomes a lottery system as td catches aren't predictable. PPR more likely rewards the 146 yard effort than the "2 catches for 6 yards and td." The bunch of catches for -2 yards isn't reality. And when you do have a high-volume ppr guy (Wes Welker) its predictable.

Standard de-values wr's in general, and makes results much much more random than based on merit

So basically you would prefer to just drop TDs from a standard league.

No, ppr provides a nice balance for wr's between tds / other stats. In standard all that matters is a random td catch that isn't predictable at all / a lottery type deal for wrs.

I also hate how wr's don't matter much in standard

Why don't running backs get points for carries?

lol, td catches is much more of a lottery system than catches.

I think we see here why PPR was created. Generally WRs score less points than RBs and TEs so PPR was created to compensate for this even though the logic if it is shaky at best.

Isn't this a little contradictory? Catches are predictable but not in the red zone?

Flex Rankings in PPR based on avg. pts before this week:
1. Charles RB
2. Graham TE
3. Jones WR
4. Brown WR
5. Jackson WR
6. Peterson RB
7. Nelson WR
8. Welker WR
9. Marshal WR
10. Forte RB
11. McCoy RB
12. Moreno RB

5 rb's, 6 wr's, 1 TE

In standard the top 12 is 8 Rb's, 3 wrs, 1 TE

I prefer the more balanced system

Not to mention, I get the theory of "-2 yard catch," but that just doesn't show up.

Hell, I'd be fine if you took out PPR and just did like "1.5 points for every 10 receiving yards" (not sure if that works out to scale, but I feel standard devalues wr's and places too much luck on that position).

Well, at a much smaller sample size yes... also Matthew Berry had an article in which he statistically laid out some of this information and it showed how random td catches are compared to the rest of receiving stats (he did it to prove a point that fantasy players shouldn't "chase touchdowns") when it comes to wr's. Still helps my point here. Anyways, like I said, I'd be happy with a 1.5 points per 10 receiving yards (like I said, no clue if this is to scale but you get point). I just find it maddening when a WR dominates a game and gets 12 points

I also have heard of leagues popping up with "point per first down," which apparently balances things out nicely.

Anyways, I think I'm done ranting about this. Neither side of this argument is objectively "correct," its an opinion thing

So it just makes it more difficult to identify the players that are going to get TD catches.

Going into the draft managers just need to accept that WRs score less points on average then QB and RBs and value them accordingly. It happens with TEs.

I would argue that catches are way more arbitrary than TD catches because there is no disputing that a TD catch helps the team whereas a catch does not.

Yea you should be..

I'm down 53 in a 6 pt per passing td / ppr league with Eli (Brees bye) and Cruz left... I actually think I have like a 20% or so chance..

I guess its make sense on valuing less at that position (and I do, in standard I follow the RB heavy theory, in ppr I go wayyyy more wr based than most people), I just enjoy leagues in which everyone is valued more equally.

I understand your theory of arbitrary (which is why I proposed just possibly valuing wr yards a little more... much like passing yards are valued less), but I wish I could find the article I referenced about how random td receptions are compared to other stats, which to me I don't enjoy but o well.. just an opinion

In my league there is a 6 point bonus at 100 yards receiving/325 yards passing which pretty ridiculous.
